Did someone totally ruin a treadle?
Just saw this ad on craigslist in Topeka. I've never seen anything like it - looks like someone took a can of gold spray paint to the machine and base and decided to "pretty up" the wood. I'd like to have seen it before the "remodel"!

Will never understand why people do that! I like things enhanced to their most natural/original state. Even if they have to sand everything down bring it to it's most original condition. :((((((

Have you ever thought that the people on those DIY TV shows who impart such fabulous ideas should be brought up on charges?
On the flip side it's theirs to do with as they please. It's not like there's a shortage of them in their natural state. I had a set of irons sandblasted then painted them red to be used in another treadle powered project that never got off the ground - so to speak. |
I actually like it and it would be fun to sit and sew with. If that gets a younger mom or teen interested in sewing vintage then yay! Some people like me just don't like black machines with boring brown wood tables.

i would doubt it would sew. Or at least it wouldn't sew well. The clever, time saver here sprayed everything. Maybe I'm wrong, but the tension discs, and all the parts that move would be stuck. Or when they were used they would be paint cracks and pieces of paint falling off into the handwheel area. Not good and I doubt it would look very pretty. Even in repaints there are parts that are removed or taped to prevent painting them. |
What a shame!!!

Well if beauty is in the eye of the beholder, than this beholder sees no beauty at all.

How could it possibly sew well if it's a treadle and has no belt?
For me: Idea:good; execution : poor |
