I think it might be National Clean Out the Dust Bunny Day....
What is your favorite method?

Oh and that isn't all of it, most of it went all over the floor when I pulled the cover off. I never know what I'm going to find when I open up a machine.

I keep hoping to find money when I open a machine for the first time...

Rodney, One time I looked at a machine at an old lady's house. I spied one of those secret compartments in the table and when I opened it I thought the lady would pass out - she didn"t koow it was there... She said, "Is there any money in there?" "NOPE" Then she said her husband used to hide money all over the place.

Miriam, I'm not sure I've ever seen that much lint/dust in/on a sewing machine. Wow! Well, my son found some of the same sort of dust/lint under the hood of my car. Unfortunately, it got there from the squirrels chewing on the wire and hoses -- making it run really bad -- which was the reason he had the hood up in the first place! I'm just glad squirrels can't get into sewing machines!

I use canned air often to blow out the lint. I have seen pictures of list throughout the inside of a machine. However, when I spoke to my repair tech, he said it is okay to use canned air, but to only blow from back to front. My machine has a small door (with the bobbin mechanism inside) which drops parallel to the table and the lint escapes coming forward from this area.

Since machines are expensive and becoming more so, I think it is imperative to have them serviced atleast once a year. This way any accumulated lint throughout the machine is removed. This is particularly true if you stitch a lot (which I do).

Usually I don't use canned air. This time I did.

It could happen! I found money in one machine that I bought!

When I removed the faceplate on my Singer 115, there was a 1942 penny nestled inside behind the needle and presser bars. I’m not sure how it got in there, but I suspect that the slot for the thread take-up lever looked like a piggy bank slot to some little money-saver.

That looks like what my White Rotary had when I got it. Here's a shot of the giant dust bunny that I found. The #2 picture shows all of the lint that was packed in the feed dog area, it was most impressive. :shock:
