Exactly. I purchased a machine for a particular sewing project and fell in love with the machines, not the sewing. My procuring, lubricating, adjusting, and cleaning preempt the sewing. Finances are beginning to dictate I reverse this process.

Love, Love, Love my 201. I have a 401 with the fancy stitches but it isn't as heavy duty as my 201. Also have 2 FWs and I like them because they hold the material "tight" when the pressure foot is down. Have a 15-90 and a clone but they are still in the process of being revamped so no experience with them.

My main machine is a 1939 Singer 201. I use it for just about everything. For FMQ, the Singer 15-91 is my go to machine. For carrying to class, the Featherweight can't be beat. When I want other than straight stitch only, I dig out my mother's late-'60s White, which has a full set of cams for fancier stitches. For really fancy stitching, there is my embroidery/sewing machine, a Singer XL-400. I would find it impossible to choose only one of my machines to keep. I love them all, and I haven't even listed half of them. ;)

Among my 4 treadle machines, they're all wonderful machines; it depends on what I'm sewing. They are: Pfaff 60,
Singers 201,15-90,237. Only the 237 does zig zag and is the youngest of the group(1965ish).
The electric machines: Berninas 930 and 1031 are my favorites of all; Pfaff 1222E for binding quilts,Husqvarna Viking 875 for machine quilting and everything(when she's behaving),Singers 221(3) and 301 for when I need a machine to take a class that doesn't need a fancy stitch.

Hands down my Singer 301.

Like another person said, Singer 301 for all things quilting or piecing. I use mine often, and I do have quite a few other machines. I confess, I do like to bind on my Pfaff 1171.

I love my 201 and 15-91 equally but the 201 gets more use because it's in the living room. I love piecing with both machines.

My holy grail of vintage/antique machines is the Singer 27 with the Sphinx/Memphis decals. I've always liked Art Deco; if you ever come to Tulsa, OK, you need to go downtown... beautiful churches and buildings in this style. And who doesn't like Egyptian or Egyptian Revival? LOL One of these days I will find one with decals in great shape that calls my name.

My 301 is my go-to machine and one that the DDs can use and use well. I have a Bel Air DeLuxe (not a 15 clone) that was made in Occupied Japan that I love for heavy duty stuff. That being said, love my Necchi BU for zigzag stitching but also love my Free which uses 15X1 needles for putting on bindings. Have not scratched the surface of the machines in my possession either. Have a Two Spools which I don't use much but I enjoy playing with her too. Forgot to mention my very vintage Bernina which is also used for zigzagging because I can get a really wide zigzag on that boy. It is a Model 117K or L.
