It's hard for the purists to see this...so don't look at the photo. Birthday present to myself...metallic cherry. I'm very happy

irishrose 04-17-2013 06:34 AM

Pretty, pretty, pretty!

barny 04-17-2013 06:35 AM

Well, I love it. This should make you really get going every day.

Candace 04-17-2013 06:50 AM

Love it. Did you do it or hire it out?

beth4619 04-17-2013 08:21 AM

I love the repainted ones.

Tartan 04-17-2013 08:27 AM

A beautiful colour for a great machine! A win, win in my opinion.

quiltstringz 04-17-2013 08:35 AM

Love it, my friend did hers in metallic purple

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 04-17-2013 08:56 AM

You are a rebel! I love it.

quiltsRfun 04-17-2013 09:01 AM

Pretty! It's your machine to do with as you choose. Enjoy!

Caroline S 04-17-2013 09:36 AM

If your "baby" needed new clothes, then IMHO the red color is perfect.

Skyangel 04-17-2013 09:49 AM

I love my sweet "Violet" repainted featherweight. Looking at her makes me smile. Judging by the condition of her case, I think she was feeling a bit dowdy and loves her new clothes too!

EC 04-17-2013 11:53 AM

She's gorgeous!!

Nanamoms 04-17-2013 01:32 PM

Love, love, love Her!!! I want one in Red, too!!

nygal 04-17-2013 01:52 PM

I love the color.

DanofNJ 04-17-2013 06:11 PM

Repainting can actually save the machine. If there is a hint of aluminum deterioration, cleaning it up will ultimately save it from an inevitable end. I guess if you're a purist, black is the way to go, but actually, if you are repainting, what's the difference, as long as you love it.

I think if you want a painted FW then you should. Love the red, I would love to paint mine Corvette Red (the color of my two cars)...Congratulations !!!!

Ombragrise 04-18-2013 01:45 AM

I love the red !

CindyA 04-18-2013 03:03 AM

Very pretty. Who do you take it to for this job? And where do you get the gold details to put on? I didn't know they were available.

I like it a lot. If I wanted red I would certainly buy red, no excuses necessary. Actually I was thinking if I ran across one that looked rough I would get my husband to rebuilt it and paint it. It's all good.

KyKaren1949 04-18-2013 03:27 AM

Someday, I'm going to have a gorgeous Purple one!!! Just have to decide which one I can sacrifice to paint. Hmmm...this may require the purchase of one more!!! lol

bobbiesboutique 04-18-2013 03:40 AM

where can you get vintage machines painted with these pretty colors and new decals

MamaBear61 04-18-2013 03:41 AM

She is beautiful and my favourite colour too!!!!!

bobbiesboutique 04-18-2013 03:41 AM

I was just thinking the same exact thing must be a Ky thing- Shepherdsville

sewbizgirl 04-18-2013 05:10 AM

You either love repaints or hate them...

Mariposa 04-18-2013 05:27 AM

Pretty! :):)

Carol34446 04-18-2013 07:41 AM

I would love a teal green or orange FW, or just a FW. Beautiful, and it will last a lot longer than one in need of paint, no matter the color so enjoy your baby. :)

dc989 04-18-2013 07:53 AM

I have a featherweight which my husband found in a house we remodeled. It sews beautifully but needs paint. Where do you have this done? I do not want to do it myself.

tessagin 04-18-2013 08:18 AM

Your machine! Show the machine police door and don't let it hit them in the behind on the way out! LOL! I'm a cancer and I love anything red.

Carollynn 04-18-2013 09:47 AM

Love it. Was it hard finding someone to do the job. What I find interesting is that you still have the gold color scroll work, so I wonder if that is painted on, or a stencil. Will have to search for someone in CA who does that work. Enjoy!

harrishs 04-18-2013 01:41 PM

I LOVE FW'S! I love the black, white, tan------and if they have been repainted, well, they are beautiful too......wish some one could repaint me and make me shine like that! Congratulations!

costumegirl 04-18-2013 02:30 PM

She is very pretty!!! Lucky you!!

caroloto 04-18-2013 03:38 PM

Love it!!! It's so pretty!

BarbM32 04-18-2013 03:51 PM

Please... tell us where to get the decals....

Skyangel 04-18-2013 03:54 PM

The gold scrollwork on a Featherweight (and other older Singers) are waterslide decals, applied over the paint, then clear coat is applied over it all. The decals for a Featherweight are readily available from ebay and online sellers.

I don't know who painted my Featherweight purple. The person who owned it at the time lived in Houston, gave it to her daughter, the daughter moved to Portland to live with Dad and go to school, so decided to sell the FW on craigslist. I was in the right place at the right time to see the ad when it was first listed and going to Portland the next day. I wish I knew more. I have read people have their own repainting done in an automotive shop. Strip, clean, mask off, prime, paint, new decals, clear coat. I'm sure you could find out more by Googling.

Carol34446 04-18-2013 05:41 PM

There was a bunch of stuff including name who did this on here a while back.

purplefiend 04-18-2013 06:19 PM

CanadianGirl/Judy,
I like the pretty red color of your FW.
I'll be getting a FW painted a lovely dark purple. :D She'll be so much prettier when she has her new dress. Right now she has no decals left and the shiny clear coat is gone, however she sews wonderfully.
Sharon
P.S.:
the guy that is painting my FW does a great job. Gerald Holmes in Arkansas. I've met him and seen his work.

deplaylady 04-19-2013 08:25 AM

Very pretty! I repainted mine and used the water slide decals, but I wasn't adventurous and repainted in the original black color. Seeing all your pretty colors makes me want to find a FW in need of a paint job and go for a color! Not sure what color - all your machines are so pretty!

Janis 04-19-2013 10:59 AM

Your red FW made me smile! BUT..... I'm one of those who just love their black ones complete with scratches and stories to tell. I dress mine up with colorful spoolpin cozies. In fact the one I'm using right now has a green small one, larger white and the largest one on it is red. ( No sence to have the cozies you can't see under the spool of thread.) I have crochet a lot of them and can switch them out when I want. :)
IF I ever got a FW that really looked bad, I just might be tempted to repaint it. I like looking at the colors others have painted them. I think I'd like a purple one if that happened. I was never partial to purple until I started looking for purple things for one of my twin GDs, and now I have more purple in my life and am loving it. (The other twin loves pink, as does their older sister.)

roserips 04-19-2013 11:45 AM

I love it now you have a very cherry FW the envy of all who see her!
