I really would like a featherweight but don't know what a good price is, how about around $300.00 ?
|
Depending where you live and what you can afford. I would say between $200-$300 (includes s/h). I think if you have patience you will find one at that price.
|
Depends on condition. I paid $125 for a rough looking machine about 10 yrs ago in Angleton Tex at an antique store. She sews well, but the decals are faded, there are some other condition issues. I would maybe pay $300 for one in almost perfect condition, with a pretty good case, all the extra attachments (ruffler, hemmer, wide hemmer, tucker & buttonholer maybe, edger), an original book.
For a special machine like maybe a Centennial in above condition, I'd maybe go $500. A 222 would go for $800-900. JMO on prices, I still see an awful lot of folks that get 'em at yard or estate sales for under $50! That's my dream, to find one in really nice condition for under $100 ;) |
I just bought one on ebay a month or so ago. It is in great condition, had been serviced (had a receipt for the service)has several feet. I paid $320 plus shipping.

Yes, I am also looking to buy a Featherweight sewing machine
|
Prices do vary. I would flip if I found one at a yard sale!! :D
I paid 212.00 + shipping for a really good one with everything and it had been serviced as well. I feel I kind of got a deal b/c they are going for more these days on Ebay. I've only had mine a year and use it a ton!! I would pay more for one if I had to but not over 300.00, but that's just me :) PS I love Trudy!!! |

I just got one off e-bay for $200.00. I was the only bidder. One went off yesterday for $167.50 and $18.00 to ship. The seller had no idea what he had and it showed in his listing. Someone got a great deal.
|
A couple of years ago I bought a featherweight in great shape, together with its folding table (not in such great shape, had to replace the veneer on top) for $300. Since then it seems like all the prices I see on craigslist are going up and up, but I don't know if those machines are selling at the inflated prices. Shop around and don't be afraid to offer less than the asking price. Be prepared to walk away if the price looks too high, and eventually you will find a good one. Good luck!
|
Prices do vary. I paid $150 for mine. It isn't nearly as pretty as the one in the picture, but it works just fine and sews the nice featherweight stitch. I am happy to have it. Looked on Craigslist for my area today and saw one in average shape for $350. I am still hoping I fall into a $20 one at a yard sale, but after years of looking, no luck yet.

I realized the price was high on Trudy. I didn't want to bid, and I did the "buy it now" thingy. I watched featherweights on Ebay for a while but I was just stuck on Trudy. The seller was top-rated and had 100% positive comments and has been on Ebay for 13 years. They handle a lot of sewing machines too. I rarely buy anything like this for myself, and I just decided I had to have her. She sits on my table in the dining/living area and she sews like a champ. I smile everytime I see her!
Bidders get some good deals on the featherweights. It just seemed like Trudy was the one for me. |
For the most the FW's average from 200 to 300.00 and that depends on what you may also get with the machine. The case in nice and "it works" :) with electric cord and foot pedal. And some will have some feet and button holder with different size cams for it. So you just need to look closely and ask the seller questions, if you have any.

Lately the prices on eBay have come down somewhat, especially if the machine is not in top condition. You can find many on there for less than $200, but most go for $200-$250.
Good luck...I'm looking for one in rough shape that I can work on. |
try on craigslist too. I see them there all the time in the Phx area
|
lyndaloo- your Trudy is a beauty! I just did the samr thing on ebay, and mine will be here next week. It is a 1950 also. Great minds think alike! :)

$300 in our newspaper currently. I have no idea of the condition.
|
I paid 400 for my baby singer, that's what my niece calls our featherweight. My singer was in excellent condition. I think between 300 and 400 is a good price for a good condition.

Featherweights have dropped a little in price on Kijiji (Canadian version of Craig's List). I'm seeing more advertised in the $200-$300 range down from the $400-$500 range a couple of years ago. I just bought one from this list for $125 and it is in very good sewing shape but had the original foot peddle replaced and was missing the instruction book. Last year I bought two featherweights for $60 on this same list from a lady cleaning out her mother's and aunt's estates. She didn't know what she had and called them old Singers.

Trudy is so cute!

I have 2, got them both at yard sales. One is a 1952 paid ten dollars, the other one is a 1963 paid $40.00 for, they are in great condition. Or try looking on craigslist. Sometimes you can find them alot cheaper. :)
|
Thank you all for so much info on the featherweight. Hope I can Find one.
|
Watch Craigs List. You must look almost every day,but sooner or later one will show up,I have 2 and 50.00 for each both in mint condition. Watch the Dallas,Austin,Houston, and some of the other large cities in Texas.Good luck.

Good luck...I'm looking for one in rough shape that I can work on. Someone also posted a white FW on Craigs List in the San Francisco area for $260.00. He took the extension off and put a longer one on from a black FW and then painted it white. Even said in the ad the colors didn't match. |
I payed $275 from my local quilt shop. It had been traded in and he went over it and made sure it was okay. I didn't get any attachments but the case is beautiful and isn't musty and the machine looks good. Just has a few paint nicks in the front. I think it's from taking it in and out of the case. He has another one but he wants $350 for that one. I'd love to get another one but not at that price. I need to look for a bargain.
|
I collect Necchi and Singer vintage sewing machines and now have 5 featherweights. I, too, have noticed the prices coming down a little on them. Keep searching and you will find the perfect little FW and at a good price.
|
Patience is the key, but even four years ago, I paid $300 for a good looking and great working machine.
|
I got one off Craigs list for $150, no extras but runs great. My sister had one given to her, just needed a new cord.
|
My FW is also named Trudy. I bought her for twenty dollars
at an estate sale thirty years ago. Her former owner was named Gertrude, so I named her Trudy. |
A few years ago I was watching on EBay also. If you purchase one, be sure it is from a reputable seller. Remember you get what you pay for; I love "Trudy". She is a beauty. No poem intended
|
I just paid $227.00 on ebay for one. I am so excited waiting for her arrival. It's like waiting for a new baby! I am going to call her Bella I believe means beautiful in Italian. She comes next Wednesday.
|
I got one on Ebay also. paid $227 & haven't been able to sew on it yet. Replaced belt & feet & it will sew but the bobbin & tension messed up. I wish now I had paid more for one that was already serviced & sewing good.Be careful buying & ask questions!

I paid $182.50 on EBay for a machine in excellent condition.
|
I will send you a PM.
|
I saw one yesterday on craigslist list for $1,000. That's way overpriced.
I just bought a 301 that looks like new in the cabinet with all the attachments and the stool for $75. I also bought a Singer 15-91 a few months back for $50 in the cabinet. Both of these I got at thrift stores. |
I think cost really depends on the condition of the machine and what accessories come with it, as well as if it's got a scroll plate or a plate with the straight lines. The original color also makes a difference. I bought my black centennial edition for $250 about 10 years ago (before the economy took a nosedive). The only thing it needed was the footpedal rewired because of the small cracks in it, but that was due to age and not abuse. Good luck in your hunt. These are great little machines.
