I'll check it out this morning!

The Featherweight has a knob you turn to adjust the presser foot pressure.

Your presser bar spring could be broken. I had a 99k that was doing the same thing & that was my problem. The good news is they are readily available...& it's an easy fix! http://www.ebay.com/itm/SINGER-SEWIN...item43c037f198

Just unscrew the pressure adjustment knob on top, pull out the bar & spring. My spring was broke in half.

I was waiting to see if adjusting it did any good.

Thanks, all! That might be it, since I increased the pressure on the presser foot and it helped somewhat, but not enough. When I go back to look, I'll pull it apart and see.

I unscrewed the pressure button; is the spring attached to it? All that happened was the button/screw came off. I couldn't see anything under it.

There should be a metal bar & a spring down there....
