I have never owned a vintage sewing machine before and don't know anything about them. It was given to me as a decoration for my sewing room. I didn't get anything else with it, just what's in the pictures. Please tell me anything you know!

sweet!!!!
She is pretty :D:D:D
how pretty
very nice I never heard of this brand before
Wow. I don't know anything about this brand, but I am fascinated by the vintage machines. I would enjoy looking at it too.
Does it have a serial number? That might tell you more about it. There were only a few companies making machines, but they labeled them for store and other companies.
Go to the virtual vintage machine thread lots of answers to questions.

WOW WOW WOW - look at the height of that throat area...
looks like you could get a king size quilt in there. What's the height? What's the distance from the needle to the right? |
When you said you got a Minnesota machine I thought you were going to say you got a Viking! I have never heard of the Minnesota.

It looks like a treadle machine to me. Sweet looking. Bullet type bobbin. Can't tell if the bobbin case is there or not. Great decals. Go to the virtual area and Billy has put up a tute on cleaning up these babies. I printed them out and am just waiting for a couple good days so I can do my 'oldies' but goodies.

Beautiful machine. I would be tempted to add a hand crank to her.
Beautiful machine!

That old scroll work is so beautiful. I would love to have an oldy like that, but I too would be questioning what to do.
Its very pretty!

That is a beautiful. I have my grandma's that is a white brand but very much like that one. Be very careful .trying to clean it because I have one once that my husband got somewhere, and I tried cleaning it, It had been stored in a very dirty place. The decals came off in pieces. I think I used comet or such. Better to leave it alone.
Good for you 7, I have not heard of them. Billy posted what he knows about it, he knows his sewing machines. Go check out Billy's thread on cleaning it up. Be careful and don't ruin the decals. Good luck.

What a beautiful machine especially since I'm from Minnesota and love old sewing machines. A neat gift.
It was so nice to see someone that lives close by! I am in Traverse City. Do you belong to a quilters club in your area?
I, too, thought your "Minnesota Machine" was some joke on a needle and some thread or such. This is a wonderful machine, and who had it and where that it is in such great condition?
appearing in the 1894 catalog
The "Minnesota" was a vibrating shuttle model manufactured by the Goodrich Sewing Machine Company of Chicago, Illinois. Made at the company's Kankakee, IL, plant, this 1890s machine used a New Home type shuttle, a Domestic styled bobbin winder, and bears a striking resemblance to a National I found this description on a Google search. The picture looks like your machine but I am unable to get the picture over here for some reason. |
I don't know anything about it but it sure is beautiful.
Whoo Hoo, Lucky you!!!
You can send pictures of the machine to Sears and ask if they can give you any information on this. I sent a request to the Service Dept. in Chicago, with pictures of a stereoscope. They sent me pictures of the catalogue in was in with all the information. That was about 10 years ago, so i don't know if they will still do that or not. It's worth a try.
