Herd? Stable? Flock? Murder? School?

What is the proper term for our, er, collections?

;)

miriam 05-14-2014 08:05 AM

horde cache

Libster 05-14-2014 08:15 AM

Without a doubt....it's "Absolute Essentials"!

amcatanzaro 05-14-2014 09:16 AM

:D I would love to use murder but alas, not all of my machines are black.

I tend to call it "the horde".

Mrs Finch 05-14-2014 11:17 AM

Husband will murder me for bringing more home.

If I drag many more home there'll be a murder here too. Mostly though I think herd is appropriate.
Getting rid of machines is "Thinning the herd".
Miriam after your last buy I think mountain might apply in your case.
Rodney

miriam 05-14-2014 11:29 AM

Yes well I need to make a post about how you know when to junk out a machine... I'm getting really good at it. That will thin the herd, too.

Macybaby 05-14-2014 11:49 AM

mine is Precious! Ok- so I've been watching Lord of the Rings again - but seriously, it borders on some sort of obsession, don't you think?

miriam 05-14-2014 11:52 AM

Some of mine are SSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOoooo not Precious..............

bearisgray 05-14-2014 11:56 AM

Insanity?

That's how my DH refers to my FEW machines.

barny 05-14-2014 12:34 PM

Well, I have a small herd,[15] but a sister thinks I've had one too many strokes. She thinks it cleared out my head. She will say what in the ............are you going to do with those machines. I didn't know I had to do anything with them, but look and oil and clean and touchy, feely. I love them.

miriam 05-14-2014 12:40 PM

I'm done worrying what my family thinks - With the way the new health care is likely to take away our assets if we run up a big bill, they will at least inherit some kind of asset... just saying... I doubt if the gvt wants sewing machines, houses and land yes... machines I highly doubt it. Just keep them from rusting. :D:D:D

AngeliaNR 05-14-2014 12:41 PM

Lots of the machines are Singers, no? How about a chorus?

miriam 05-14-2014 12:48 PM

A chorus with all sopranos?

Rodney 05-14-2014 02:16 PM

Maybe this will help. There were literally millions of sewing machines produced. Compared to that even out largest ummm collections, herds, murders, mountains, choruses, whatever are really quite small. We can collect as many as we want and not feel guilty.
Rodney

wilburness 05-14-2014 02:35 PM

a "necessity". a "comfort relief" "mental health". "mine"

Angelina! BRILLIANT!!!!!!

A chorus of sewing machines.

Excellent.

And so it shall be.

Aha! I have Singers for the choir:

soprano with some helpers

bass

Blackberry 05-15-2014 04:52 AM

I agree Rodney. Mountain would seem to fit Miriam. BTW Miriam how is that project coming along?

My sister is convinced I am out of my mind. Whatever. She hates quilts too, so we try not to discuss my hobbies.

dd 05-15-2014 05:05 AM

I was thinking a "pride" because we are proud of our machines but I think I like chorus better. They do hum beautifully.

Anastasia, I don't think you are out of your mind. Anyone who has a polka dotted elephant as their avatar (and I do remember your trampoline elephant also!) is most certainly my kind of gal.

Keep on stitchin', you. With that Chorus. I love that word!!!

Miriam, mountain indeed. Miriam is awesome.

Macybaby 05-15-2014 06:00 AM

my machines are definitely a "possession" but I'm not sure if I posses them or they posses me . . .

Stitchit123 05-15-2014 07:15 AM

I call mine A Bevy of Beauties They have also been referred to as Black Witches due to their putting a spell on me to go and bring home more. My MIL had a quirky sense of humor : ) Every thing else in my sewing room is my Treasure Trove but it could be My Hope Chest =as in-
I hope I can get all this fabric quilted some day so I can buy more LOL

Thank you Cecilia, I enjoy you as well.

Oh my sister can stick it. She's got her own collection and hobbies that I don't understand. It's fine, I love her and we have plenty of other stuff to talk about.

amcatanzaro 05-15-2014 09:45 AM

Ohhhh, black witches! I like that.

:D I actually need to get a move on with the quilting. If I clear a shelf of fabric.... I can have more room for a machine.

Carol34446 05-15-2014 09:47 AM

Collector- too bad I had to quit from lack of space and MONEY. 6 sewing machines and two sergers are enough for our little place with all HD collections (guns)

Sunflowerzz 05-15-2014 10:31 AM

I call mine "The Collection" I want to be able to use each machine in rotation for the specialness of each one. I have well over 30 but only about 20 will remain in "The Collection" and of those only 8 -10 will be in the house. The others will be out in the studio. The rest will be rehomed.

I am in control. NO insanity here. ;)

ArizonaKAT 05-15-2014 12:40 PM

I consider my rescues. That way I get away with bringing home another . . . rescue.

Which project? I've been parting out the ones in the garage - DH wants the space back

GreyQ 05-15-2014 03:07 PM

A spool of machines

oldsewnsew 05-15-2014 03:12 PM

NopahDesertRat 05-15-2014 05:46 PM

How about Haram or Flock

joobee 05-15-2014 05:53 PM

A Circle (Sewing Circle)

Sideways 05-15-2014 07:21 PM

Mine is my herd. Thinning the herd? Shudders at the thought.

MamaKitty 05-15-2014 07:46 PM

I like a "chorus of Singers". For other VSMs, how about a "gather"?

AUQuilter 05-16-2014 03:11 AM

Power Tools - I told DH they are my power tools that help make quilts and projects and provide therapy. About two years ago, I found a great treadle to put in my sewing room. DH immediately went to work on getting a belt for it so I could use it. By the time the belt came, I had cleaned the cabinet and set it up as a space to put my precuts and pretties. When DH said, "I thought you were going to sew on it???!!!" I replied, "And I thought you were going to use the Craftsman Router that is still in the unopened box for the last 36 years!" Nothing more to be said...

I don't understand how anyone can hate quilts.
