I got the deal of the century!

I called on 2 listings on Craigslist Sunday and got both machines and even though I paid what they were asking still feel I really got a deal.......The full size one is a 115 from 1919 with Tiffany decals some times called Gingerbread (got this from the internet search) paid $30 for it.
The featherweight is from 1927 and hadn't been used for a long time (all dried out) but got it cleaned, oiled and greased and it purrs. The case and attachment were in great shape with no musty odor! Paid $40 for it----the keys tto lock the case are even there1

Kas 12-20-2011 02:35 PM

Wonderful deals! I would double check the serial # on the featherweight, though. The first one was made in 1933, I think.

aronel 12-20-2011 03:27 PM

I don't know how I missed these, but you beat me out! I check Craig's List (Omaha/CB) almost every day, never saw these! Congratulations to you. I live in Glenwood, just south of you, but I'm in CB almost every day.

What a deal, nothing is ever in my neck of the woods for me to get a deal like that. It is always too far from away, (Arkansas). I would like to pick up the machine instead of having it shipped. Did they ship them to you. They are beautiful and you did a great job cleaning them up.

jljack 12-21-2011 09:04 AM

Now THAT is a GREAT deal!!! Congratulations!! Love your new machines.

MacThayer 12-21-2011 09:28 AM

I would say you have three sets of winners here. First of all, you cleaned out a space in two homes that held items they obviously didn't value or use, and were just taking up space, and made them some small amount of money --- although I'll bet just getting them out of the way was their biggest relief! And you turned out to be the biggest winner of all, because you now have two very beautiful machines that you will care for and cherish and use, and congratulations to you on that! So I guess that makes Four winners! Those machines must think they died and went to heaven to be in such loving hands again!

georgiaclark 12-21-2011 10:01 AM

I love it when someone who appreciates a good deal gets one!

I agree Featherweights did not start being made until the 1930's the first ones were rolled out at the Chicago World trade fair I believe.

valleyquiltermo 12-21-2011 10:09 AM

Wow a steal and no jail time. Very lovely machines, so happy for you.

harrishs 12-21-2011 11:12 AM

After your posts I checked the machine again with a magnifying glass----(ole eyes aren't what they used to be) I did mistake a G for a B so the age is 1941. I am sorry for the mistake-----thanks for the information and heads up----still love it!

Kas 12-21-2011 12:03 PM

I am so glad you know her real birthday, now! I love these old girls. Sharon MacCallum (Dave's wife) suggests writing what you know about the machine's history on an index card or put it in an envelope if it is too long for the card. Then put it inside the drip pan for posterity. The next person who gets her will know more about her.

Jingle 12-21-2011 06:36 PM

Beautiful machines, no matter their ages, a great deal anyway with the condition they are in. Good for you and enjoy.

Connie M. 12-21-2011 07:19 PM
