Debbie, Cathy may have missed this part of your message: The 15 is because the first machine to use the needle was a Singer 15. In the same way class 15 bobbins are also named for that machine. Singer 12s used a 12x1 needle, the Singer 206 was the first machine to use a 206x13 and the Singer 16 the first to use a 16x231.
