I redid a sorrowful little featherweight-----

I bought a sorrowful little machine from a friend of my DS and DDIL. It was so worn and sad looking....but still plugged along doing her job of sewing a nice straight seam... I have always wanted to redo and fancy up a machine, so I decided I wouldn't be taking anything away from this sweet machine by doing so.....

It is just a little paint and some decals, so someday, if I have the money, I would love to have her painted professionally but until then, we will giggle and sew.....

Am sending the before and after.

I think you did a fine job! I love those butterflies! :)

quiltingcandy 05-30-2012 08:18 PM

Looks like you already did a great job on this little machine.

kitsykeel 05-30-2012 09:45 PM

Don't think I have ever seen one so worn looking. But your flutterbys and flowers make it so cute and fun. Great job. Enjoy sewing on her.

That poor little thing was loved to death wasn't it? Nice job. Enjoy.

barri1 05-31-2012 02:39 AM

You dressed her up.. I'm not sure I would worry about what she's wearing, more of what she has to give to you.. Since her stitches are nice, and straight, enjoy her for what she is.. I'm still looking for a FW

You did a great job. Glad you found the machine and saved it!

carrieg 05-31-2012 03:09 AM

She feels like a royal queen now that you've prettied her up!

SingerSewer 05-31-2012 03:30 AM

You sure did pretty her up! Love the butterflies and paint job. Looks like she had a hard life before she made her way into your world.

What kind of stickons did you use? I have a machine that could use a bit of joy but only find the scrapbook stickons and didn't think they would wear well.

Great job!!!

nanna-up-north 05-31-2012 03:52 AM

I'm sure the poor little thing is so happy to have found a new, loving home. I think a little girl would just love to learn to sew on her..... and quite a few big girls as well.

jeanneb52 05-31-2012 04:15 AM

What fun! Love it.

Tartan 05-31-2012 04:26 AM

It looks like she earned some TLC. I know it's nice to get one in pristine condition but you can tell she was well used and that's a compliment to her too.

luvstitches 05-31-2012 05:30 AM

And you did a great job! The machine looks so happy now. Thanks for sharing the photos.
I was in Council Bluffs for a wedding one year ago on Memorial weekend. It's a beautiful
area.

She definately lived a good hard working life, didn't she? I think you did a great job giving her a facelift!! I think she must be grinning inside!! Good for you....you two will enjoy sewing together.

darlin1942 05-31-2012 01:51 PM

Never seen a butterfly on a sewing machine, but she sure is an uptown girl now. Great Job!!!!

chickadeee55 05-31-2012 02:35 PM

Oh, I think that is so cute, makes me smile. I could see sitting and sewing with butterflies a fluttering around. Great idea, I may have to borrow that idea when it comes time to paint my machine.

quilt addict 05-31-2012 02:39 PM

Nice job, I have never seen one with the paint that worn off.

nannyrick 05-31-2012 04:46 PM

HI! I use a carburator degreaser and q-tips and alot of elbow grease on the really hardened oil. I also use WD-40 to clean the finish as well as Dawn dish soap-----The WD-40 will clean sticky residue from old service stickers (I love WD-40!)
I can't wait to see your picture!

gollytwo 06-01-2012 07:26 AM

you did a great job
she looks much happier

nstitches4u 06-02-2012 11:32 PM

I should have clarified that I use the degreaser only on the hardened oil and grease ,not on the finish----I use the q-tips dipped in it ------to clean the surface, the WD-40 or dish soap cleans well---I re-shine with singer oil I had to repaint due to the paint being worn off....

HiDesertQuilter 06-03-2012 05:20 PM

Ohhh, if that little machine could talk! Wouldn't she have some wonderful stories to tell. When I see wear marks like that on a machine from the seamstress's arm, my imagination goes wild. I would love to meet the lady who loved her so, sit down, have a cup of tea, and enjoy long conversations about sewing. It's lookin' good. Enjoy!
