Birthday April 2 1954. I rescued another old derelict sewing machine this week. I removed broken wiring. Here it is before I worked on the rest of it:

I cleaned about 60 years accumulation of lint and junk out of the bobbin area and I rebuilt the tension - set it aside.
Then I used the Naptha according to Glenn's tutorial - ugly?

The bottom side is black rather than shiny metal coated with oil. There is no end to the fuzz.

Ok back to top side. I can see this isn't going to be pretty - can you? Putting on raw linseed oil thinned with denatured alcohol.

I got the whole machine covered with it and it looked a lot better but the surface is still ugly - sort of looks like a map of the world.

It has been gone over and gone over since the last photo and in bad light it is passable maybe - it is smooth feeling

But in better light, I'm not sure there is a cure for ugly

The mechanics move very freely. All of the parts cleaned up nicely. There was no rust on it except a couple spots on the bed and where they left thread on the bobbin - but it cleaned up nice. It seems to have been used a lot a long time ago. I don't believe anybody cleaned it or oiled it much. That doesn't stop this one - it still goes strong. She needs a name, too.
