At last.....Suzie has arrived. I was a nervous wreck waiting. The man I bought her from didn't sew. He said the motor worked and the needle went up and down but didn't know if it sewed. I decided to take a chance and buy her. Cords looked great so I plugged her in and sat for 10 minutes afraid to sew. Finally jumped in and she purrs like a kitten and sews a perfect seam.
She needs some cosmetic work and a really good cleaning and oiling. But she is older than me and I could use that too.    I love her. I'm glad I took a chance and can give her a good home. Yipeee.......

The case is missing a latch

You are so lucky. I sit here wishing that I could find one. I do have my Mom's old Kenmore in a cabinet but the cord has fallen apart. I plan to take it in but haven't done it. I have lots of fond memories since I learned to sew on that machine and made all my buttonholes on it for years.

she's beautiful!! you're gonna love her!

If you make a custom bag to fit your Suzie, the missing latch will not matter. I have mine in a tote bag to take to group sewing. I also have the booklet in the bag, in case I need to adjust anything. My Elizabeth stays in the tote all the time, just open the top and take her out to sew.
Enjoy your new treasure.

Where did you find Suzie? It's like a baby being born! I waited overnight for my first one to arrive and was so excited. The man that helped me probably thought I was crazy! Since then I got the bug and have added 4 more! I just love using them they are all great machines. Have fun with Suzie!

Look how cute! I love mine and she didn't even come in a case. After many moons of looking I was so happy to have her. Enjoy yours.

They are wonderful. Saw ad online in 1992..Wisconsin Sewing Machine Repair shop got one in from some kids whose grandma had died. They found a FW 221 in closet. All the accessories were still wrapped in tissue. Carrying case perfect, machine used very little. I called the shop told them I wanted it..he said mail me $50.00 and it is yours. The FW arrived FedEx 2 days later before he even got my check. When I called about "that", he said anyone willing to pay $50 for that old thing was bound to mail their check. She is a jewel and sews perfectly.

SO pretty@

My sister has my mom's old Kenmore in a cabinet. I had it for a while but never did anything with it. It just sat in my garage so I took it back to her...now it's sitting in her garage! LOL I really didn't think it could be repaired. I had several people ask if I wanted to sell it but we wanted to keep it in the family regardless of whether it worked. Now we need to have it checked out and see it it can be repaired. It's the machine I learned to sew on, too.

I really have the f/w bug! But if I buy one more machine, I'm sure my hubby will have a cow!! I already have 4. None are the f/w tho. I keep watching them on ebay but can't bring myself to bid on one site-unseen.

ShirlinAZ 02-18-2011 07:20 AM

She's lovely! Going to pick up my Model 128 in a few. This is so-o-o-o-o-o-o exciting!

Nona 02-18-2011 08:15 AM

If you keep looking around I found someone who had cases that fit the featherweights and the price was certainly reasonable. I of course bookmark the website, but it was a shop that did a lot of vintage sewing machine repairs.

Wonderful...so happy for you! Be sure to look up her birthdate on Singer's web site. (DO NOT use any old thread, oil or lubricant on her.) I do suggest you either take her to a FW technician or take the time to learn how to take care of her yourself. There is a treasure trove of info out there. You will enjoy being her "buddy" for a very long time

Suzie is lovely! You are going to have "sew" much fun together!

Your new baby is BEAUTIFUL. I keep hoping, hoping, hoping that my turn will come. Enjoy!!!

Mine came with one broken lock too. I ordered it from this company: http://www.sewingmachinesplus.com/P60221NS-LOCK.php
I also put a luggage strap on mine for transport because I don't want to take a chance on it opening while carrying.

Congratulations! You will enjoy this great little machine. I bought mine about 7 years ago for a BD present to myself. I do highly recommend getting the book "The Featherweight and I" by Dave McCallum at www.featherweight221.com. I bought this book (also have the DVD) when I got my machine and it is a great book to learn how to maintain the machine yourself. It will tell you also how to get the awful smell out of the box (if your's is smelly like mine was). I am fortunate to live only about 37 mi from where he would have a maintenance class. Another web site I've bought parts from is www. 221parts.com and had great service from him.
