Ok ok you guys have given me the bug too! Had to satisify my curiosity and pull out DH grandmother's sewing machine. :D Serial # G2319263 So the serial number was issued in 1912 WOW 100 yrs old! Is there a way on singers' web site to find out what model it is and a closer time frame to the actual manufacture date? Yes, bless her heart she's dusty and dirty, I don't have any attachments. I do know, however, that once a little mousie packed her full of dry dog food that turned wormy! LOL That was a job trying to vacuum all of that out of her. I'm saving her for a winter project this winter. I'd like to clean her up, oil her and get her running again. I've named her Samantha after DH's grandmother.

It is a Singer 127 with Sphinx decals. You are lucky to have such a nice family piece!

I believe this is a VS2. I believe if you contact singer they will give you an exact manufacturer date based on the serial number. I love this design. One of my favorites!

Oh, what a beautiful machine. I am sure you will enjoy working on her and getting her all spiffy. The worst I have had to cleanup is petrafied mouse droppings---lots of them. But it was worth it!

Thank you all so very much. I just sent Singer an e-mail. Now I just have to wait for their answer!

The bobbin winder on a VS2 is located at the base of the pillar.

Your Singer 27 was commissioned to be made on August 8, 1912, making her a true antique this year! :)

The 27 also the bobbin winder low on the pillar. I believe the bobbin winder location is the only real difference between a 27 and a 127.
I'm not seeing a lug on the pillar to indicate the bobbin winder was raised to the higher location at some point.

What a beauty. I love those sphinx decals. .... and I don't see any rust. This one will be a fun job to spiff up. Do you have the slide plate that appears to be missing? You probably can find a replacement for that without too much difficulty. I agree that yours is a 127 because I have a 27 and my bobbin winder is near the base of the machine. Have fun cleaning her up..... she's going to love being brought back to life.
