Here is my sewing machine that i sewed on while I was a child... yes this one! It was my girl, story goes... I trade my sister's friend for a " better" one so I thought only to go buy my first machine after sewing with it. Well later in talking about the machine I found out that it was my Aunt's that was her mom's ( my great grandmother ) Once I found this out I wanted so bad to ask for it back, well many years went and i wondered if she even had it.. so I emailed her and asked if she still had it... and she said yes and asked me if I would like it because she was going to get rid of it.. Well I took her to lunch and I brought her back home !! isn't she pretty? She is a shuttle bobbin and still has all her attachments.. I think they are pansy flowers ... the cabinet needs to be revarnished but she is a keeper...

I LOVE your story..write it down and tuck it into a drawer on the cabinet....she is stunning and I know you will have years of good use out of her! Thanks for sharing your story!

irishrose 01-29-2012 05:33 PM

She is a beauty and it's so nice you have a story to go with her.

mmonohon 01-29-2012 05:35 PM

Beautiful machine.

wuv2quilt 01-29-2012 05:35 PM

How cool is that! Congrats on finding your baby after all these years

girliegirl 01-29-2012 05:36 PM

Jackie, I learned on her! I am 47 and I made barbie clothes, rag dolls and I even made my clothes in high school on her, I made those long wool skirts and even a blazer! Carmella's mom made her beautiful outfits, so I jumped right into it.. I will make my note and will even put a picture of aunt dell and Gram Weigand " Minnie " in it...

Wonderful story and beautiful machine.

Chele 01-29-2012 06:04 PM

Definitely jot down the story and include some pictures. I'd like to see future generations sewing on that beauty. Or at the very least, enjoying the history of your machine.

Daylesewblessed 01-29-2012 07:05 PM

Those pansies are gorgeous! I am glad you have the machine now!

What a pretty machine! Glad she is back home with you.

I am so happy for you to get your machine back. It has a great story to tell, and putting that along with pictures of the owners, you included as a child when you sewed on it will make it even more special. What is her name?

Glenda m 01-30-2012 06:51 AM

So glad she's back where she belongs. You have a name for your lost baby?

Cacklinghen 01-30-2012 07:12 AM

Neat! Love the story! Enjoy the machine!!

I'm so happy for you that you got your machine back after 25 years and that it still had all the attachments and was still in good shape. You mentioned a "shuttle" bobbin. My grandmother gave me her sewing machine when I was about 18 years old (I'm 65 now) and she was about 80 yrs. old. She had used this machine to earn her living after her husband got sick and became bed bound for about 25 years before he died. I think the sewing machine must be at least 100 years old. It has a shuttle bobbin, too. I've looked on line for info about the machine but can't seem to find anything about it. It's a White that was converted from a treadle to electric back in the 30's my grandma said. That's all I know about it. Does anyone know anything about these old shuttle bobbin work horses?

My Sewing came back home after 25 years!! mine after 48
LET ME TELL YOU HOW GOOD MY GOD IS,
I was watching a show on TBN the precher prayed for things the devil had stolen to be RECOVERED & RESTORED i prayed along with him... sounded like a good idea i did not realize it was a GOD idea
My dad was a drunk and very mean my mom lived with him over 40 years but one time when i was 10 she left him for a couple weeks before he forced her to come home. he got rid of everything in the house that was hers. last year my cousin called me and said would you like to have to have your mom's old treddle machine? I said sure but i have no idea where it is .. she said i know where it is... Now that her mom (my dad's sister) was in a nursing home she could tell me she had it wow.... I was thrilled
but that is not the end a few days later i was at the bank as i started out of the drive way i noticed an estate sale across the street i was in a hurry and had no plans to stop but my car just went there almost by itself. i walked in and there sat an old dressmaker in cabinet for $25.00 i did not even stop to look at it i just handed the lady the money and walked on thru the house to see what else they had the electric had been turned off and it was not realy light in the house but when i got the machine outside i recognized evey scratch on it i asked the lady that helped me carry out if she knew where it came from she said her mother did not even sew it had sat forever in a corner with a lamp on it but she thought someone from a bar had give it to her..... PRAISE GOD I have both my mothers machines back I had alreay been sewing on both of the machines at the age of 10

What a great idea about writing the story out. I have the machine I learned to sew on. My mother bought a Singer Featherweight 222 k in 1958?? to darn pants and do repairs on our clothes. She hated sewing and used to cry when she did the repairs. When I learned to sew in Home Ec in grade 8 from an awesome teacher I was allowed to use the machine. I sewed all my clothes even when I was a registered nurse on that machine. I now have that machine-it was born in Nov 1957 and I was own in July 1951. This machine is serving me well now. I am using it to make quilt tops a project I promised my self to learn when I retired. I did it an I am having so much fun Great machine

Whigrose 01-30-2012 05:12 PM

GirlieGirl,
What a beautiful machine and a terrific story. I'm with jaciqltznok, write the story down and slip it into a drawer. I'm taking her suggestion and going to do it with all my machines.

best,
d

BarbaraSue 01-30-2012 10:05 PM

How wonderful for you :P that is such a great story. I agree that you should document this story and keep it with your machine. You and your family later would love to know how she returned to the fold.

This is a GREAT story. We always hear about LOST pets and kids finding the way home, but now we know a lost machine that has found her way too. Happy for you. Also goes to show NEWER is not always better. Happy Sewing.

The one like her that my Mom had was burned in a fire, sure wish she had been saved. Brings back memories . Glad you got her back.

Caroline S 01-31-2012 07:55 AM

I think it wonderful your sewing machine came "home". And best of all she has a story that can be told and preserved.

Beautiful machine, beautiful story. It's great to have a machine LIKE the one you used to have, but to have the actual machine come home must bring back so many special memories!

SUZAG 01-31-2012 12:48 PM

There was a reason why you thought of that machine while your friend was thinking of getting rid of it...congrats! I sure wish I could find my old machine...

d.swindle 01-31-2012 05:26 PM

I love your story , it has a very personal meaning,I was just looking on E-bay at antique machines to see if I could see a shuttle bobbin machine, that was my first machine I sewed on.
you made my day, thanks for sharing,I don't think I would ever find my mothers shuttle bobbin machine, very happy for you .
