Need Help Identifying this Singer Treadle Machine
1 Attachment(s)
Hubby and I stopped at a second hand store and this little lady was sitting out front. The pic only shows the machine head, but the cabinet is in good to better shape. I really like it because the decals are really in fantastic shape. The serial number puts its manufacture date in 1922, and I think it is a Red Eye. I have seen model numbers as 66-1 and 66-4 that look similar. The cabinet has 3 drawers on each side. One drawback is that is was modified for electric, but it looks like she can be restored to her original treadle state. Can anyone shade any light on this little sweetie. All I know for sure is the manufacture date, the rest is just a guess. I would appreciate any info. Thanks in advance.

It is a 66-? Redeye. I can't tell weather or not it has the back clamp feet or the side clamp.
The back clamp feet were used up until 1923 and was the - 1 model. The -4s came introduced in 1923 when they went from the back clamp to the side clamp feet. Yes it is a nice machine and if all the treadle parts are present it would be a very easy task to return it to it's treadle power. Just remove the motor and light, and put a treadle belt on it. Joe |
Oh and many 66-1s were converted from the back clamp feet to side clamp feet so that is not always an accurate visual indicator.

Thanks for the input Joe. It definitely has all it's parts, and the foot screws on from the back. How would I tell if it had been modified? So it is a Red Eye? I have always wanted one. I am so pleased with this find. Of course she came home with me. Wasn't looking for anything right now as we are in the middle of moving, but couldn't resist.
Once again, thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. |
That's a beautiful machine!

To Joe: Thank you so much! I knew she was special the moment I saw her!
Now for the tough question. Due to the cabinet being in really good shape and the decals crisp, my Hubby wants to know if she was worth $50....course, she was to me...:) To Mavis: Thanks! |
