Take it apart maybe?

After I oiled it I unthreaded both the needle and bobbin, and let ti run for awhile before I put it away. Perhaps I should take it apart and clean everything. The only problem with that is the manual only covers the basic subjects. I'm not a sewing machine expert, so I fear I might never get it back together properly?

Have you found a repair manual? They call them adjuster's manual, repair manual, maintenance manual or service manual - I haven't looked for a free one but you never know.

When I got my FW the hand wheel would not turn. I found a small piece of a straight pin broken off in the part where the bobbin goes.

No I only have the basic 'how to' manual.

Miriam and Candace, Thank you both for your advice.
I forgot to add that it had been sitting for about 8 months before I decided to set it up to give it another try. But before I put it away I oiled it. When I tried to sew with it last week, at first the machine just made a humming sound, but it would not sew. After about 15 seconds it started to slowly run, but it was very sluggish for about 8 seconds. Then it ran normal.

That's a pretty machine. Glad you are working with it to get it sewing.
