new home 1917 machine

what can you wise folks tell me about a New Home 1917 treadle in the closed cabinet? i have opportunity to buy one and i know nothing about them.

So many variables, it would be hard to give you a value, etc. These are very simple machines to get running and to clean up the cabinets. If it's in fairly good condition they are worth whatever you are willing to pay. Basically that's the best rule.

I think it's in order to go ahead and post which machine she wants to know about, I've put this one in charlees thread about 3 days ago....

To me it's a great buy .. these new home hand wheels seem to always be a dark color ...

Rather than asking us how much we think you should pay for this, you should be braggin cos you just got it home and are thrilled to pieces to get it.
$60.00 is a good price for that. That machine is a good sewing machine, they sew very well, ( I have one ) and the cabinet is in really decent shape.

I paid 3X that amount for a Franklin in a parlor cabinet that's bottom was falling apart. Lot of work into it and I'm not unhappy at all.

Go get it, that machine needs a good home.

The ONLY downside I see to that machine *might* be the slide plate, and like we talked about in the other thread, I think it's in the attachment box. (Kind of peeking out from underneath the underbraider)

If I were closer and wouldn't have to drive 3 hours to get it, this machine would already be sitting in my home with me wondering where the heck I was going to put it! The cabinet by itself is worth the $60 IMO.

Good catch on the slide plate, Charlee! I have to agree, the price is great on this machine/cabinet.

Go for it! It's a terrific price!! I just bought one myself, but it is a 1915. So any info you happen upon would be great to know! :)

Run for it! Fantastic price for a machine and cabinet in such nice condition. It's too far away for me to sneak it away while you think it over.

If you do get it you will see that the decals are much more beautiful in person. They look nice in the pictures but wait until you see them close up....such detail!!

i don't know yet either. i'll have to message my daughter and see if she picked it up. the funny thing, is i talked with DH yesterday and told him that i had wanted to him to pick something up for me. His response, " that sewing machine? I saw your post and thought, " oh, no, she is getting the old machine bug, i'll have to find her work space in the shop and get her some tools"., said with a chuckle in his voice. Then he said he'd be glad to teach me how to fix them. He is a great mechanic, mostly old automobiles and small engines.
What i would have wanted him to pick up was a different, more local Craigslist of a Grace ez44 hand quilting frame which unfortunately for me was snatched up by someone else first.

the machine is mine, just a matter of arranging pickup. i'll post pictures when i get home. Also have an older Pfaff that i picked up at GW and had tuned up. I bought it because i wanted an older solid machine for quilting , have no idea how old she is though she is SS only. I"ll check her numbers out as well when i get home.
