I had the same thing happen when I got my first featherweight. I had the needle treaded from the wrong direction. These beauties are a little particular but will sew like a dream once you get it them threaded and oiled properly. Enjoy her!.... you got a deal!!

There is info on there might be some help:

Seems like when I find a cheap machine there is a reason. Seems like when I see a machine in exceptional condition there is a reason...

One other possibility...
I bought some bobbins on eBay, supposedly for a FW. But, when I popped one in, I couldn't get a single stitch. The bobbins are slightly too thick for the bobbin case. Perhaps the previous owner bought some of the same bobbins?

But, most likely, the bobbin case is not seated properly.

Hope you figure it out!
Cindy

lint would keep it from going in the case all the way

Does your 37 FW sew? if so check out how it looks in the bobbin area and how it is threaded.

I just went through this. Check the little finger in the bobbin case and make sure it's centered between the springs on the needle plate (I sound like I know what I'm talking about :-). Check out my post on "Trouble won't sew". Joe gave me an excellent website to go to that will walk you through the process.
