cmagee84 06-22-2011 02:43 PM

She looks like a "precious Pearl" now! :)

Murphy 06-22-2011 02:44 PM

I absolutely love the name Pitiful Pearl. So glad you have saved her and brought her back to a wonderful, creative life,

Shelbie 06-22-2011 02:52 PM

Perhaps Pearl would be a good candidate for one of those custom paint jobs that Billy does. Maybe Pearl is secretly yearning to be purple, red or turquoise!

OneMoreQuilt 06-22-2011 02:56 PM

I'm so glad you saved her.

Sunflower Girl 06-22-2011 03:13 PM

They're so cute, you can't but help to love them (FW)!

frauhahn 06-22-2011 03:16 PM

I think I can see her smiling!

blueangel 06-22-2011 03:32 PM

Or maybe Pearl would like to be like her name "pearl"!! :)

sandpat 06-22-2011 04:33 PM

Awww...she deserved to be saved! Lucky Pearl!

Quiltbeagle 06-22-2011 04:36 PM

Poor Pearl! She looked like someone had tied her all up and just tortured her, the poor thing. She looks a lot better now, for sure. How will you repair the crumbled metal on her base, if at all?

lyndaloo 06-22-2011 04:47 PM

Pearl's a sweetie! I'm so glad you rescued her. You've done a good job cleaning her up!

Boopers 06-22-2011 04:51 PM

When I bought my second FW from ebay, the seller said that the light worked but it didn't sew. I got her really cheap and tried the foot pedal from my other FW and she purred. Cleaned her up, serviced her and we are very happy.

Stitchnripper 06-22-2011 05:00 PM

Pearl looks like she feels a lot better!

I am doing some research if that can be repaired------she must have been in water or high moisture---because the bobbin case was rusted in----(WD40 to the rescue along with an old tooth brush and q-tips)----I think it was Billy that recommented liquid gold and wax for the finish and that has helped after cleaning . off all the old grease and gelled oil. The picture on e-bay showed the paint missing but not all the other problems. I felt so sorry for her when I took her out of the box----She just wants to be loved and used!

GreatStarter 06-22-2011 05:16 PM

She is so pretty. It's fine to be a little worn in places, just ask my dh I am alittle worn in places too. Enjoy her!

I have an old Singer 301 that my mother had for years. Mom was a smoker and I have been wondering how to clean the machine to remove all the old cigarette yellowing from the smoke without dulling the paint finish. Any recommendations would be most appreciated. Thanks, Ann in TN

jeanneb52 06-23-2011 04:20 AM

I have a "knock off" of a FW , Mal's mini classic They made them to compete with the FW but it never took off. I love my Marvelous Minnie. One day I will have a FW but for today, MM and I are loving each other...

Lostn51 06-23-2011 04:27 AM

For a second I thought that was one of my FW's I sold here a while back. Mine was missing paint all over just like that one and the new owner is using it like she stole it!!

Goodness gracious, what happened to her?? But she looks very happy now, so I think she needs a new name. BTW, my mother told me I had a doll named "Pitiful Pearl" when I was little. I was horrified, until she told me I didn't name her that, she came with a plastic tear. I should have asked her why on earth they gave me such a depressing doll.

It truly makes me sad to see what some people do to such wonderful machines! I suppose if they don't sew or care about the history behind the machines it truly doesn't matter to them. I have rescued at lease 23 various old sewing machines, many antique and I am running out of room but if one is offered or I see one "curb side shopping" I will take her home and add her to my collection. "Pitiful Pearl" is a "Perfect Pearl" now and if you are going to repaint her she truly should return to her original color.

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 06-23-2011 05:02 AM

I made a purse insert yesterday and started using my featherweight. This was her first project. After a few minutes I switched to my Janome 6500. I love my little featherweight but I missed my needle up and down and my automatic thread cutter. Yes, the featherweight purrs but so does my 6500. It's a dream machine. It went through layers and layers of material and interfacing with no trouble. I'll try my feathrweight again for straight piecing but we've come a long way since then and I definitely would not want to give up my Janome.

Use Billy's tutorials on cleaning the machine up. Choose the level of what you want to do. It is scary at first but easy to do.

Nice job. She's obviously happy to have been rescued. Enjoy!

kacy 49 06-23-2011 09:32 AM

She is precious and knows she is now in good hands. I can tell she loves you and knows you will take care of her for a long time. She did tell me though that she wanted a new Red coat for Christmas.

With a name like Pearl, if you're thinking of having her painted maybe a Pearl color to match her name. Love my FWs and as long as she's working and makes you happy, what she looks like on the outside doesn't really matter.
