I'm sitting here not knowing anything about repairing machines. But I have to ask anyway.....could you try removing the needle and turn the wheel? I'm thinking bent needle here. Or maybe the hook(?) or finger(?) on the bobbin case got somehow bent just a tad when the jam occurred. Like I said, I know absolutely nothing about repairing them, I just hate not being able to fix my own machines when I need to.

It looks more like a rotary hook to me. You may still have a thread lock in it.

"the "bobbin race hook assembly unit" does not have any motion even within itself, whether on or off the machine. This seems wrong."

That is your problem... You will have to take it apart and put it back together again. ARGH. It can be a wee bit of dust, rust, burr, thread, dried oil, or assembled slightly wrong, or assembled right but nestled wrong - let us all know if you find anything

Thank you CD. Can you tell me, what is it that give it away as a rotary? Just curious, as Miriam mentioned that if it is rotary then the pieces would not necessarily move about within themselves, and it would help me to know my ultimate goal in case I am trying to make something move which is not meant to move...?

By the way, here is an annotated photo in case it helps anyone.

Cecilia,

I'm waiting on parts to finish up a FW I had to repair the bobbin hook assembly on. I said "repair" because the bobbin case base that has the finger that mounts under the needle plate was bent. How it got bent I do not know, but bent it was. And it was bent so little it was invisible to the eye. This caused the hook drive and bobbin case base to jam tight and the machine would not turn.

Since these things cost so very much to replace ... if you can find an original ... I found the bent spot and stoned it down to fit again.

The reason I'm saying this, is if your assembly is jammed, then either the screws are not in right as has been said, or perhaps it got bent.

Can you totally disassemble the bobbin hook assembly? You might have said that already and I missed it. If so use magnification and see if there are marks to indicate binding and or fit interference.

I hadn't thought about something bent. Something may just not be nestling right and a screw not tight enough or a burr would make it not move. Use a little T-F when you re-assemble, too.

OK, the pic above my previous post just now loaded. You've got to get that bobbin drive apart. Something is jamming it's pieces. The inner should be stationary while the outer part oscillates around it.

I'm thinking her problem is that it is jammed somewhere. It will have to come apart and be re-assembled correctly what ever that takes.
