I'm starting a thread where everyone can show off their beautiful creations made by using their vintage/antique sewing machines.
I got bitten by the vintage sewing machine bug last summer, which was about the same time I started quilting again after an extremely long hiatus from that hobby. So, here is one very simple quilt that I made using a Davis New Vertical Feed, a walking foot machine. Front and back of quilt Quilting straight stitch Attaching binding with DAvis NVF walking foot machine. |
Very nice.
|
I make all my quilts using my vintage machine, but there are too many photos to post.
BTW, nice job on your Blues/Whites quilt. |
I had hoped to use a treadle machine for some old fashioned quilting, but hubby couldn't get it working... so.. he bought me a NEW machine... I love it, but still would have liked to use a treadle some.
Am snowed under now with other projects to get started and finished before Christmas... |
Thank you for starting this thread.
A lot of my sewing is done on my 1975 Bernina Record 830. I will post some photos later. Guess I will have to crank on my handcranks and treadles to show sewing with those vintage machines. LOL. I guess that what I am saying is that your thread will work as an inspiration for me. Thanks. :-D |
Wow that is great!
|
Beautiful job.

They are all so pretty

Here is a Christmas table topper made with scrappy fabrics. The machine used was a Singer 201k in treadle.

Both quilts are beautiful.

It's not a quilt, yet, but here are some quilt squares that I made from "crumbs" and they were sewn on my Singer 301. This machine was able to sew the smallest scraps together without "eating" them.

Here are a couple of pictures of a quilt I made for my daughter. Her favourite colours are pink and green, but not necessarily together. It's the Sister's Choice pattern shown on Bonnie Hunter's website. The top was pieced on the Frister and Rossmann 1937 transverse shuttle which is shown in the thread Vintage Sewing Machine Shop Photos, http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-130994-6.htm and it was long arm quilted at the quilt shop. On the picture of the machine you can see the back of this quilt. It's hard to get a good photo of this quilt, the colours always look bleached out.
I hope you particularly like the bad join in the border by the corner. I've already posted another quilt, which was pieced on a vintage Singer, at http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-132615-1htm I always do the border as blocks rather than a continuous strip one of my favourite blocks |

I made a crumb quilt using my Singer 201K for the piecing and a Husqvarn Viking Sapphire 875 (the new girl) for the
machine quilting. Sharon W. 1936 Singer 201K treadle, it has the hand crank on because 2 little girls were learning to sew. |

REally like your Crumbs. I also have 301 but it is at my friends house so I don't have to take it back and forth. Don't you love your 301!

BTW, nice job on your Blues/Whites quilt. I think I need an urban dictionary to help me with some of these acronyms/initialism. |

The machine that started my love of using vintage machines with treadles, a Singer 66-1 with Lotus decals. This baby quilt is the first quilt that I made by treadle power. The pattern is from Moda. I pieced, quilted, and attached the binding with this machine.
|
Muv, your quilt is so beautiful. I love the soft colors.
Sharon W, LOVE your quilt with the bright colors. What pattern did you use? It looks like a variety of log cabins. LC are one of my favorite blocks. Vintagemotif, your pinwheel quilt is very pretty. Wow, on your Singer 66-1 with lotus decals. Gorgeous! :-D |

I love Quiltville.com, lots of good patterns for using our scraps. Bonnie Hunter was a speaker at my guild last year . Sharon |
I also like to use the Plain Spoken pattern by Bill Kerr and Weeks Ringle found in their book The Modern Quilt Workshop.
You can either free motion quilt (I like to use my Singer 15-90 in treadle for this) or straight-stitch quilt (which is quick and simple on even Singer 66-1). I'm presently working on a Plain Spoken that is quilted just using the straight-stitch. I'll post photos of the finished quilt. |

I am currently piecing 2 quilts of valor with my black Singer 301. She's sewing wonderfully since she's had her top tension reset.
