Quick update! I added a treadle to my line of machines. And I have another red eye treadle on the line right now...
I hate to keep adding but I find them and can't resist.

It's beautiful! My GD (3 yr) sits and sews on my FW and on her Janome Mini (I got it for her because it stitches at a slower speed.) She works the foot pedal with her hand because she can't do it with her foot - yet. She already has the order of things down - pretty sides together, presser foot up, needle down, presser foot down. She also has a machine that has a finger guard and can use the foot pedal, but likes the other machines better. We even played with the 401 - she picked out the pattern she wanted and read the letters to set the pattern before we sewed. I would love a HC machine!

I use the 'grease' that has the teflon. I really like it. Not messy. The teflon also holds up better to heat/motion of the gears. I got mine at the auto parts store. I think it was a DuPont product. .
