Why do we all want to get these machines? The love of the antique machines??? I'm not sure.
I have been looking at a machine I can use with my DGDs, they are five.
Does anyone have a "finger guard" they make for these?

Thanks for any help with the guard! I'm hoping to find a treadle for it. I paid $95, I think I paid a fare price.

Enjoy! I have been so busy with sewing, I'm hoping I can fit this into my life!!!

It is electric, but I need a new plug in for this, it has not been updated.

The decals are in pretty nice shape. The serial # G0594970, I don't know the age and I need a owners manual. And the man said to use a synthetic oil, with teflon?? what is that all about? I'm looking any info on the oiling also. It runs so smooth.

According to the Singer web site, its birthday was June 22, 1910 (provided I looked it up correctly!) . She is beautiful. You will really enjoy her!

I have the same machine BD 6/10/1910...You can buy the grease and oil for her right at Joann's...I think it's put out by Singer. I also think you can find the manuels right online via the Singer Website...The manuel will tell you exactly where to put the grease and oil. Very easy to maintain...I cleaned and oiled mine...
Also is a model 66...uses Classic 66 bobbins sold at Joann's (Metal) don't buy plastic bobbins.

sueisallaboutquilts 06-24-2011 12:26 PM

She's gorgeous!!!!!!!!! I have one too and can't stop looking at her beauty :D

Beautiful machine, good for you.

thepolyparrot 06-24-2011 01:15 PM

Very pretty! :)

Jenny at sew-classic.com carries the finger guard you were asking about.

Painiacs 06-24-2011 02:42 PM

I have the same. I thought we used singer oil?? I went online and copied the manual. Just cleaned mine up. Need to get a case and the thing by the wheel for bobbin is off. Don't know if u need if if ur not going to wind bobbins? Guess we will be figuring ous out together. I was gonna call mine Lucy for all the trouble she's kinda given me! My 15-91 is Ethel!! U could call your rose Marie!!

emerald46 06-24-2011 02:45 PM

She is so pretty!

featherweight 06-24-2011 02:46 PM

That is beautiful!!!!

suezquilts 06-24-2011 02:47 PM

I wound my bobbins on a stand alone bobbin winder.
I use Arcopac Oil 90, which I use on my industrial machines.
Just finished oiling it, rethreading, put in new thread in the bobbins.
My machine is very clean and the decals are barely worn on the bottom.
It came in that wonderful cabinet with a stool. I emailed Jenny at sew-classic.com for the parts I need.
I actually love Lucy for a name, I don't know what I'm calling her.

frugalfabrics 06-24-2011 02:53 PM

very nice.

sueisallaboutquilts 06-24-2011 02:54 PM

Billy has a wonderful tute on cleaning this machine (and others) on page 46 in the virtual machine shop here.
I did mine and it turned out great!

Lostn51 06-24-2011 04:03 PM

She is a beauty indeed!! She will soon be your favorite machine in your arsenal.

Billy

cabbagepatchkid 06-24-2011 05:56 PM

Woot Woot is right!! My first vintage machine was a red eye.

I have to warn you, though, once you get your first vintage/antique sewing machine you won't be able to stop at just one. I don't want to 'enable' you in any way  but you should see all of the gorgeous vintage machines out there with all sorts of decal patterns on them!

You could try putting a hand crank on this particular machine, until you get new cords for it, your granddaughter will love to sew with it and she can go at her own speed.

sueisallaboutquilts 06-24-2011 06:16 PM

I'm afraid Cathy is right!!! :D:D
They are so addicting!!!!!!!!

hobbykat1955 06-25-2011 03:07 AM

Tell me abt it...I found my redeye, my first vintage and within 4 wks I owned a 301, 301A and Elna Grasshopper...Still looking for a reasonably price featherweight

QultingaddictUK 06-25-2011 03:14 AM

What a beautiful machine, I did a search for the finger guard and found this site: http://www.universalsewing.com/tek9....criteria=520.1 Hope it has what you are looking for as your DGDs will be so lucky to be allowed to sew with that machine

merchjag 06-25-2011 03:18 AM

I have always wanted a treadle machine. I remember my Aunt using one. When she would get tired she would let one of us kids work the treadle snd she would keep sewing. Is it a nostalgia thing? I finally bought one and I love it.

Yooper32 06-25-2011 03:25 AM

That is one gorgeous red-eye. Looks like it was loved and cared for. You are one lucky lady.

pscott392 06-25-2011 03:46 AM

I got the link below from Billy so I could download a manual for a treadle that I just purchased. Hope it helps.

didi 06-25-2011 03:53 AM

Lucky Lucky you!!!! She is beautiful, what are you going to name her, wish I could find one, at that price???

damaquilts 06-25-2011 04:13 AM

I use to belong to a sewing machine repair group. They recommended Triflow. It was originally used on bicycles I think . It doesn't attract dirt and it doesn't turn yellow and get all sticky like the old oils. I used it when I was fixing them up and use it on all my machines now.

PieceandLuv 06-25-2011 04:39 AM

what a honey.................

quiltqueen61 06-25-2011 05:01 AM

I have one just like this, it was my Grandmothers, it used to be a treadle at one time, it still runs like a charm. Mine dates to 1921/22, I have kept it all these years but haven't used it in a while, maybe it's time to sell it to someone that would.

romanojg 06-25-2011 05:22 AM

this is beautiful; I just got a red eye this weekend. It needs the plug wire replace because it's cracked. It's in a cabinet w/knee lift so it's great. I have in the past few months gotten a FW and a treadle, the red eye and another one that looks like the sphinx. I contacted singer with an email; gave them the model numbers and the next day they sent me an email telling me I have 2 (66), a 221 and a 66K machines and they included the birth dates and places where they came from. You may want to contact them. On the web I could only get partial info but not all of it was accurate so I know. My red eye came with the manual and orginal attachments in thier boxes but I'll have to download the rest of the manuals from on line or sometimes you can find them on ebay. Enjoy your machine

romanojg 06-25-2011 05:23 AM

Viking recommends this to put on your q-tip to clean your machine. It must be good stuff.

My mom has one of these machines for me in a shed and I need to refinish the cabinet and have the Red Eye serviced, which my mom is qualified to do. It is also a treadle machine, I am really excited about it.
About the manual, I know that my mom was able to down load the manual on the singer web site. She said it didn't take very long and it is very easy to understand. Not exactly sure where you would find it as I didn't look myself. But she said that is where you would look to find it.
Good luck, Jennifer

What a beauty! To find out the age look on line for the Singer website to get the phone #, just give them the serial # and they will look it up for you. My DH was given a commerial Singer with the model # missing, he found out with the serial # that it was built in 1916!! Needless to say we are having a hard time finding bobbin belt for it.

harrishs 06-25-2011 06:57 AM

I want one so much to go with my other vintage machines! Your machine is beautiful---Happy for you!

janiesews 06-25-2011 07:11 AM
