Red 'S' FW

My friend wants to sell a red 'S' FW for $350. I dont really need another FW and funds arent flowing as well as a few months ago - but havent seen that type of badge often. Is it really rare? Or is it just something people use to market the sale.

Forgot to mention its a 221 not a 222.

sorry, but I will NEVER understand why folks would pay more than $100-$200 for a FW.... of any variety. I get that the 222 is rare, but even for that I don't get the obsession.

I'm just stuck on old machines I guess...

I think I will let this one pass. You put it in perspective for me Steve! Plus I have 2 blk FW & a free white 221. Thx.

Ditto. There are just too many 221's around.

I don't know where everyone gets there FW, I bid 400 and 500 on a blk one and a white one, and still didn't get it. It was local and they were in great condition. I will find one some day for a good price. Just got to keep looking, like I need another old machine :)

The featherweights are great for folks who go to quilt guild meetings. I use mine every Monday and I love it. This is probably the main reason they are so popular. Baby boomers are aging, they have some cash and will spend on things they want, especially for the trending art of quilting (which I think is largely due to aging demographics). These machines are cute and they work. I'm just trying to explain why I think they are trendy.

I paid less than 3 C-notes including shipping for the one I bought my wife. I thought that was too much. Feather Weights are a cult fad cos they are plentiful and cute. They are NOT worth the prices they are selling for.

there's a lady here that fixes them up and sells them for at least $475. They go for less than $200 on shopgoodwill and ebay all the time.

I'm waiting on a $20 fix 'er up special.

But, is the red "S" model more appreciated by collectors? More valuable?
