The best thing you can do is to USE that machine. Using it will not hurt it at all. Letting it set around is the worst thing for those old machines. Kind of like me - the more I sit around the more useless I become.

Thanks for sharing your lovely machine with us...I wish I had taken the time to investigate my Gr'ma's machine when she passed 36 years ago but since I had to fly to SC from Utah I don't know that I ever would have been able to save it anyway.
I love that you have all the extras and hope that maybe you will feel the urge soon to take her out for a drive...not that you have to make it the main machine but just once in a while maybe.

I promise to take her for a spin!

just a (hopefully happy) thought I'd like to share...

We tend to think backwards when we think about memories. That is, we think about the memories WE have behind us, NOT the memories we and others have in front of us.

I think the greatest way you could honor your Aunt and Uncle is to find a way to try to make some family members of a generation AFTER yours have similar memories with YOU and that machine to carry forward when it is their turn.

Enjoy your family machine, as has been said many times by many folks, some of us REALLY wish we could have the opportunity to do that...

I agree, Steve. I love trying to make memories for my grand kids. I hope they remember getting into the old machines and pulling out lint, cleaning up the grunge and oiling them and best of all making the machines work. Two of them are getting into making the bobbin area and the tension area work - it is exciting. Who knows where it will end. That's the fun part of 'future memories'.

The kid has absolutely no appreciation for all the beautiful sewing machines I've collected. Guess I should find them a good home before I kick the bucket. :D

Congrats on your new beauty! I just bought my 15-91 from a thrift and it has the 'wrong' case and pedal for it. LOL It has a trapezoid case. It took me a bit to clean up the motor to keep it from smoking but she runs strong and I am happy. It's so cool you got the whole kit and caboodle. You're aunt would be happy to know her beloved machine is being used.

I apreciate the idea of making memories. I forgot to have kids thus I have no one to pass this down to. I have a neice but she is 3 hours away and has no interest in sewing. At least not that I have seen. I will have to think about this. Hopefully I will have years to worry about it! I should write up the "history" and put it In the bench. We should all have "plans" for our "stuff".

My grandparents lived half way across the country. I can remember spending time with the old neighbor ladies. They made good memories, too. Sandy, there are Big Sisters, Girl Scouts, lots of kids crying out for some memory other than a video game. I don't know if you could volunteer at a library...
