Sandygirl's "vintage" Singer 15-91 Centennial (1951)
 

Ok ok.....now ya got me feelin' guilty! Here is my vintage Singer from my late and fav Aunts' estate. She passed in 1999. It sat in my moms' house until she passed in 2009. It came home with me.

My mom did not like to sew. She had one in a different sewing desk but in her later years she took the machine out of it and put in on the curb! I was NOT happy! Mom would just get rid of stuff w/o offering it to her kids. I have no idea which model mom had. :(

Very pretty! I know what you mean about relatives getting rid of stuff. Have my great-grandmother's treadle table but no machine! I know it had been converted to electric and my grandmother had it. Thought mom had it for a while. No clue where it went. Enjoy your machine.

What a pretty 15-91 - now you really should be sewing on that old girl once in a while, they are wonderful for FMQ.

I do most of my quilting on my frame, but lucky for me my Bailey takes the same bobbins as the 15 - so I use mine as a bobbin winder.

They really are wonderful machines.

I get a little weepy looking at it. Touching it. She was my favorite aunt (and uncle) and I miss them like I miss my parents. I wish that I had been interested in quilting when she was alive. Ah, stupid youth! My youth!

Well your aunt loved that machine too. How would she feel if she knew you were using it? Pretty happy, I'd think.
A little of your favourite aunt and a good deal of her history are in that machine, so you could easily give yourself permission to smile and think about what she accomplished on it when she was young when you're using it.

I'd love a machine like that. Well, technically I have one - a 15-91 clone, but Japanese, later, blue so not quite the same as a black Singer centennial. Did you know they're so strong they'll sew through tin cans with a standard needle?

Just lovely!!! I have one in an art deco cabinet and although I have a stool, I had to buy it separately and it is not the "exact" one for this cabinet. So nice that you got the favorite aunt's machine and that it came with lots of goodies. The history of it alone is well worth having in your home even if you didn't sew .... but since you do, even better!!! Enjoy!
