Rodney The "I saw it on eBay for XXX" seller. Ad states "No lowballers" these things go for 1100.00 on eBay. |
Went to an estate sale. Knew what they wanted for the FW. They wiped it with windex and then used furniture polish on it. I really had no intentions on buying it because I just didn't have the $300.00 to spend. I wanted to test it. Took my test kit, denim piece. The machine would not turn. They were very reluctant to let me touch it. Thought I would buy it just because. They had a tag on it stating "Mint condition". Attachments and partial manual. Yep they were firm on the price. I left with my kit and my $250.00.

You just summed up just about every seller on Rhode Island Craigslist. Thanks for the laugh this morning! :)

Yes, and for the CL here in Tennessee. But my son is the lucky one. He sees through their BS and shoots them a line of his own BS and brings me a 15 91 home for $10, or just yesterday, a beautiful late model Singer for $6. I haven't checked it out yet, and he didn't get anything except the machine--he hasn't learned yet to ask if the seller has the attachments and book. But I am working on him; I make him help me clean them up and get them running, griping all along because he didn't bring this or that for it home with him.
This was a funny read for me here this morning. I'm doing my forum reading before I make myself get up and get something accomplished--it is raining--my excuse anyway. |
How about the one I talked to recently "I had to put it together so I am charging you $400 for the time I spend on it'.

too funny.... |
There's the Everything Old is "Industrial" seller. Just because it has lots of metal, it must be "industrial." See that a lot on Ebay.

I missed out on one this week. Ad said 50.00 or trade for wine or beer.

I thank goodness for the high priced sellers. If they were all bargains I'd have to build myself a new house or spend a fortune on storage. I once kept a few machines at the local self storage and I would have been ahead by giving them away by the time they finally did sell. I was like a squirrel gathering nuts for winter for a while there but I think I'm reformed and try not to fall off the wagon unless something spectacular comes along.

condition: excellent
This was my favorite craigslist ad this week! They are asking $250. I bought this antique sewing machine for $80. I sent it to restore and refinish with a specialist in antiques, cost me $265 to do it. He did a great job. I do have the sewing machine that came with it, but I removed for restoration, but still in working condition. Measurement: 20"W x 15 1/2"D x 30"H Great conversation piece. Recently moved to a new home and redecorated. |
