I know that this is an old thread but my husband recently unearthed one of these in our bunkhouse. It is a beautiful machine but we are having a really hard time finding out any information about them. It sees but the thread eventually gets bound up and breaks. I would love to find it a new home if anyone is interested because it is so beautiful or get more information. I will attach a photo once I figure out how to do that.

These are a wonderful machine. I’d love to have it but logistically... I would fix that machine then use it for everything. It is a tank. I’m wondering if it is made by what ever company made Atlas, Brother Toyota? Cari knows... Several things could cause the thread to break. Is the needle threaded correctly. Is there any rust. Does it have the correct bobbin? Check to see if the needle is in correctly. Needle on that machine goes flat side to the side of the needle bar. Thread goes toward the needle bar. is the tension set correctly. If it is tension there is a really good tension thread here somewhere. Maybe check the sticky notes.

Miriam I don't think it's Brother built. This is one seriously cool machine. I'd love to have one of these but same as you, logistics.....

twhvir, check to see that you have it threaded correctly. I just noticed that it threads rather strangely. Look at the photo in post 1.

Miriam, exactly what is the needle bar?

Someone in Janey's Colorado group might like this machine. Of course, Canon City might not be close enough to Denver to make the logistics work.

Hey I went to go see Janey and John once...Oh yea. Long way to Canon City..Though I have been there.

bkay the needlebar is the rod that holds the needle and clamp and is powered by the machine. You've touched a bunch of them. Why are the rods, called bars?? This is a flat bar off an old Davis.
