Singer 248----bobbins?
1 Attachment(s)
I found this Singer 248 at the Goodwill warehouse (or as I call it "junk by the pound") for $10. I have cleaned it and oiled it----and it works well. I is missing the needle position lever. The bobbin is one of the prewound plastic and I think metal works better for me.....does any one know, if you can use a metal 66----I haven't found a manual yet on the net that doesn't cost... or instructions. I may have the bite the bullet and buy one!

Nope, I cant use a 66!

Post a pic of the bobbin carrier, that might help ID the bobbin.

harrishs,
That machine should take a Class 66 bobbin. It can also use the metal or plastic ones. I'm not sure why it won't work for you. Joe |
Thanks, Joe, I will try again

I got one of these just a while ago . . I wish I knew how to link you, but I know I put singer 248 in my question line. someone directed me to the singer website, where you can download the manual for free. I was having trouble properly threading the bobbin. the manual helped, but I didn't get tension smoothed before I hurt my hand (dishwashing accident). Now I cannot mess with it at all. I did learn that the dial on the top is the presser foot pressure. Mine is missing the slide plate, and I wonder if that is contributing to its (my?) problem!!
Good luck with yours! I will be curious (and learning vicariously thru you!!) ;) Lara |
Metal for metal bobbin cases, and plastic for those with plastic:> Make sure you have the bobbin case in correctly, because by the photo it wouldn't be seated correctly. The thread needs to make an S turn in the bobbin case.

harrishs,
Also when the bobbin is seated and threaded, when you pull on the thread the bobbin should turn counter clockwise. We lightened the photo and the bobbin case does appear to be seated properly on the hook. Lara122, Yes not having the slide plate will let the bobbin bounce around which will drastically affect the tension. Joe & Elaine |
boy am I SO glad you told me that, Joe and Elaine!! Now, I have to go find a slide plate! Sew Classic? ;0)
Thank you thank you, Thank You!! |
