as what miriam mentioned, you do need to have a base for the machine if your going the hand crank way.

My husband is really good at working with wood. He is going to build me a table top base. I did not order the hand crank. I am not a very patient person, so I figured the electric way was the way to go for me. Thanks for the base building websites. I will have my hubby take a look at these.
