I have one too. Someone took very good care of mine. I oiled it down and it is beautiful. Houses a Singer 201.
It is a little worn on the trim, needs to be restained the darker color. Wonderful old cabinet. You did a beautiful job on yours!! Ethel |
Thank you all. I am very pleased with the results, I love the General Finishes water based dye stains, and Glenn's Cleaning tutorial made cleaning it so much easier than just trying to sand it all off. Love the tutorials that QB has available!

wow! Beautiful change!

I found one last year and love it. The only thing is, it will tilt forward a tad, so I put some strips under the front of it.

Probably looks better than the day it was new. Beautiful!

I am coming late to this party. I bought one of the cabinets yesterday and should have it on the weekend. I am in awe of how yours turned out. Mine looks to be in a little better shape to start out with but needs to be refreshed. I did read Glenn's entire wood treatment thread. My question is, did you use his solution mixtures to clean it up first? And they use the Restore a Finish? Did you apply the dye just on some parts that needed extra color or did you put a coat on the whole thing? Lastly, did you use the cherry on the contrasting parts and the restore a finish on the rest. I know I can figure it out but after seeing yours, I am hoping for some hints so that I can make less mistakes. Your cabinet is beautiful.
