A couple of the spots where the veneer was ripped off had to be filled. I did use Glenn's cleaning mixtures, and actually ended up using every technique I could find on here, and then ended up with those products pictured last. I put the cherry finish over the whole thing. Then I used a dark gel stain on the dark bands--I couldn't fill all the chipped veneer around the bottom and the dark gel stain visually covered it up really well.

Congrats on getting a 42! I'm sorry, I'm not sure of the best way to blend repairs into that particular finish. Maybe Glenn or one of the other members will know. We don't see the blonde ones often. Pictures please? :) Pictures of the damage too so we know how severe it is.

Hey Rodney...you're posting! Isn't today your big day? I woke up early thinking about you, and have your name on the top of my Prayer list.

I have that same Singer 42 cabinet. It is a jewel, at least in my eyes. Mine came from a FreeCycle listing and was complete with a Pfaff 130, instructions, accessories...everything. I later found the matching seat, too.

I had a furniture man "refurbish" the cabinet. He cleaned it, patched in a couple pieces of veneer, and used a dye finish of some sort on the wood.

These photos were taken when we were finishing the sewing room, so excuse the not-yet-touched-up trim, the painter's tape on the floor, the unfinished bathroom door, all the other remodeling detritus around the room. The photos are very poor, but the first and third is before the finishing, and the middle on is after the finishing.

I love having, and using the Singer 42 cabinet.
