Singer Featherweight tablet #68
Tablet = Table...duh!
I was very fortunate to come across one of these little treasures. I cannot figure how you remove the top to set the featherweight down inside the cabinet. I have looked for releases or something to loosen the cabinet top. |
Are you saying the oval top won't come off? Can you post a pic? The top should just come right off, there are no latches or release mechanism, it just sits on the top with small pieces of wood on the underside that fit the edges of the machine opening so the top sits properly in place. Maybe someone permanently attached the top somehow, not knowing what the cabinet is supposed to be.

I'm pretty sure she means taking it out of the base it sits in

you do not do that, you open the drawers.
The very early version had a spring loaded tray that does lower into the cabinet, but most only have a fixed tray, and you simply pick the machine up and then set it underneath. |
here is what the lift looks like
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps60ee7a36.jpg and with the machine lowered http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps89caa261.jpg to lower, you lift up the extension, and pull up on the black part to the far left, that releases the catch and you can lower it. To raise, you pull up the machine until the catch engages. IIRC, it says "lift here" on the part you are suppose to lift up on. |
Saw one of these at a thrift store a month ago. $20 on the table. Machine not included.

tessigan - I sure hope you took it home with you. I paid $1000 for this one, but it did come with a machine (no box though).

I have a card table for my singer featherweight and there is a piece of medal with acess from the bottom of it with a metal mechanism that has to be turned. Then you just push it out from the bottom and set the Featherweight in.
|
oh, had not thought about the card table - with that the inset piece lifts out, it does not drop down. I have one cabinet/table for a 3/4 size bentwood case type machine, and that one does drop down into the table.

Tessagin, my first thought -- I hope you brought it home with you.
I'm sure OP meant the cabinet per http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...t-t277533.html Cathy, thank you for the pictures and instructions on how it works - should I ever happen to see one. Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do. |
