I did it! I bought a 1910 Singer Red Eye treadle machine. I love her! She is in mint condish and runs like a top. I can do the treadle thing, not fast and not smooth but I'll get there. I have wanted one for years and now she is here.... She and I are going to have fun together. The younger girls can wait awhile.

leatheflea 12-22-2010 04:43 AM

LeeAnn 12-22-2010 04:52 AM

Beautiful machine! I love the old treadles. Don't you wish she could talk, I'm always curious about their owners. It appears her owner was very proud of her too and took very good care of her.

gypsyquilter 12-22-2010 04:53 AM

wow, she must have exercised right, eaten well, taken her vitamins and lived a good life because she looks marvelous for her age!

Beautiful machine-I'm so jealous. When I read the title of your post, I thought Yea there's an old lady at my house too--ME--LOL. Congrats & enjoy your new old lady.

jeanneb52 12-22-2010 05:37 AM

She sure is a beauty. I keep walking into the sewing room just to check her out! I close it up but then have to re open it. LOL Obsessed? A bit. I, too, am curious about her previous owners. I wonder who they were and what they did with her. Can you imagine if they saw our other machines? Massive culture shock.

wolph33 12-22-2010 05:45 AM

Japonica 12-22-2010 05:46 AM

Beautiful. I have my MIL's in the attic and have had no interest in it until I starting quilting a few months ago. I have been saying to my husbnad that I want to drag it down after the holidays and see what it is and what condition it is in. May have to take a break now and go up and take the sheet off and peek at it. Thanks!

twinkie 12-22-2010 06:00 AM

I have a Red Eye 66 treadle also in the same condition and the same cabinet except my cabinet only has 2 drawers on each side not 3. The one in my Avatar is a Singer Model 27 from 1903. It is in a very decorative cabinet that I dearly love. You are going to love her more as time goes on. Congrats

SewingSass 12-22-2010 06:01 AM

How pretty!!!!!!!

CoyoteQuilts 12-22-2010 06:44 AM

Yeah, she sure is a beauty!

My DH found one at a new/second hand furniture place just like this one last week. Wasn't in mint condition with the same cabinet which had some water damage. The price tag was $199.00. I thought it was a little steep for the condition. Was I wrong?

RkayD 12-22-2010 06:56 AM

thats beautiful! I love the designs on it. I just recently started really paying attention to these machines and am proud to say I have one.

I don't know about the condition of the one you saw but I have found that in mint condition they go for more.

Melissa...I'm a Long Island girl too! Medford. As for the avatar, it was a table runner, long gone to a friend.
