Thrift Shop Find Singer 401A
I got my wife an old Singer a few months ago after she said she wanted a sewing machine (we're 23). I was going to go to Amazon, then thought to look into vintage machines. I found someone local who serviced them and I bought one from her. It was from 1950. I forget the model now without running upstairs to see it (3/4 sized).
Well, we're thrifty people and were grabbing some cloths at Goodwill which is something we do every other week it seems. I walked over to the older items, and then started walking back after nothing caught my eye. My wife comes up behind me and says, "did you not see this sewing machine?" I totally missed it, I walked right by it. It was a Singer 401A with EVERYTHING. Price tag? $35.
We bought it right away. We were going to just sell it on eBay since we know we could get a good buck for it, but after some consideration my wife suggested we consider keeping it. I'll probably look into pulling it apart and cleaning/greasing/oiling everything. I think they're only going to increase in value, considering we're both young, we should keep them and pass them onto future generations.
I don't know what some of this stuff is, and my wife has yet to use the machine I got her before since we just moved. Hopefully it'll get some use soon.
Here is the album.
