I have a zig zag treadle machine in the living room, I can watch TV while I sew. Its a Singer 237 in a 1895 treadle cabinet with a coffin top. Sews a nice stitch and is very quiet. My friend was over last weekend and we were talking while I sewed;
she was amazed how quiet it is.

Clearly it's in your DNA. Do you think scientists have discovered the sewing gene yet? It could be used to clone even more quilters, or used to treat folks who are bored with their life. Move your ankles, cut things up, and sew them back together!

I have the treddle that was my mothers, right now there are boxes stacked around it. One day will move the boxes & have at it. I am thinking it would be good exercise for the ankles.... Thank you for the reminder.

Never have sewed on one. Bet it's good exercise huh?!

It is fun and very soothing to treadle. The rhythm of the machine moving in time with my legs just is very relaxing to me, anyway.

I nearly fall into tears when I use mine. There is something so relaxing with the swishing sound and movement of your legs ever so slightly. It reminds me of when I learned to quilt from my Grandma. Just love it when I get to play on it!
