I use a rotary hole punch, which your local hardware store almost certainly has for 10 or 20 bucks. But it lacks the panache of a dedicated, vintage tool.

Panache is key to punching good quality belt holes. 😁

The hole where the belt goes is a bit big and so you have to be really careful to keep the punch centered as you squeeze down. Cheaper by far than an ER visit. Mine came with a pre 1900 machine.

I'd love to see a picture of it. I've no idea how old mine is. I don't believe it's any newer than the 1960's given the history that I do know, but I can't be certain of it's vintage.

Another illness... I collect these too... Most need new blades and or puncher points, but the most annoying thing in the punch is too big. So for practicality, I live them to close the staple, but not so much to the hole.
