Treadle Belt Tool

I thought that people here might get a kick out of seeing this. It's a treadle belt tool with the ability to punch a hole for the staple, cut the belt and crimp the staple. It came to me with a sewing machine screwdriver.

Very cool! So much better than putting it in a vice and punching the hole with an awl.

I have one.....it makes installing the belt quick and easy. Love it!

And a whole lot better than rolling the belt around on the workbench while I poke the awl into my fingers!!

I've never seen one but now I need one! The way it centers the belt is marvelous!

Time for me to find one! Thank you for the picture. Crazy how humans are always having to reinvent the wheel when the tools have been there already. How quickly we forget!

Treadle belt tool

That's wonderful! I've never seen one before, but I sure would love to have one. I have a few more belts to install and always have to have hubby help me.

I found one on Etsy and some on Ebay. They aren't cheap, but they look as though they may be worth it.

Be careful on ebay, I just searched and at least two of them are missing needed parts to punch hole and cut leather. I got mine from Amazon and Wawak is currently out of stock.

I had no idea that there were new ones available. Mine was made by W. Schollhorn Co. of Connecticut. It also has the name "Bernard" on one of the handles. It's a heavy tool, and extremely well made. Here's a close up that shows just how solidly made this thing is. The blade is removable for sharpening and the hole punch is adjustable as well.

That does look like a nice one. I bought one on Amazon some time ago (search for treadle plier) and it is OK. The hole where the belt goes is a bit big and so you have to be really careful to keep the punch centered as you squeeze down. Much better than a nail however and $40, although not exactly cheap, is still better than a nail and a pair of pliers.
