That's a godzilla finish on a Sears Kenmore and there are people who actually like that kind of machine.

I could picture it in a leather shop, sewing patches on motorcycle jackets or something similar........ It has a decidedly masculine feel to it.

I guess that's what this one is too, just a different make/model? They are a bit ugly but at the same time interesting. At least you don't have to worry about trying to get a shiny finish back on an old machine, right?

Yes, it would be good in one of the booths selling patches at a motorcycle rally!! I can see that it could have a certain appeal... but I don't see me bringing it to a quilting workshop!

The old White made Kenmore machines are very good machines. I have a number of them. The crinkle paint is more durable than the shiny paint. Contrary to popular opinion they are easy to clean as well.

As for taking one to a quilting workshop .... why not? Why be one of the flock with Featherweights, be different.

For those who don't follow links here's the machine. Nice mid-century cabinet too. $50.

Here's the Greensboro machine, Decent looking mahogany cabinet, looks like the knobs are gone though. $25 :

I like both machines. :) I had the White version of the Domestic and it was a good machine.

They're not all mono colored either. Here's a two-tone Kenmore:

It's a 117-720, one of my favorites.

These are my least favorite machines. Ever.

I think the crinkle paint is an acquired taste. I didn't care for it at first either. When I bought the White it was with the intention to strip and repaint a different color for my daughter but when I saw how well it cleaned up I decided to keep it original. I would still have the White but a good friend of ours saw it and liked it so it went home with her. I like the art deco and streamliner look so I like the Kenmore anyway but it might look even better in a glossy finish.
