I bought a sewing machine yesterday because it is pretty. Sad reason, but there it is. Anyway, I'm hoping someone can give me more information, maybe even where to find an owner's manual. This machine is cast iron, looks vintage but I'm not really sure because it is made in the Republic of China. They may be still making them there... There is a serial number, but no dates. Motor was made in Japan. I haven't done anything to it yet - it will look even prettier when I clean it up. There's a picture of one of these on needlebar, and one for sale on ebay (also one already sold on ebay) but no information on any of those sites that I could find.

Can't help you, but it sure is a pretty machine. Hopefully, someone will be more help than me.

That is VERY pretty, LOL! I would have bought it, too, just for the looks alone!
|
Gorgeous machine. I would have bought it too. Too pretty to pass up.
|
Post this on the vintage machines thread in the Main section and I am sure either Billy (Lostn51) or Charlee can help you out!
Beautiful-I would have bought it too! Hugs April |
I would have gotten this machine just for my dd because she loves butterfly's. well she is only 2 1/2 but you are never too young to get hooked on sewing right? she is already wanting to cut fabric and pin fabric. next she just needs to get big enough to reach the peddle to machine sew the fabric and hand sew without poking me or herself with the needle.

There is a little info at the bottom of the page on this link:

What? Don't tell me the Amish use sewing machines made in China!!! Was it at least treadle powered?

Beautiful machine. I would have bought it too even if it ends up just being out for display. Good luck with finding info about it.
|
Congrats!!!
She is BEAUTIFUL!!! |
I tried to look it up and from what I found they've been around since 1919 and they are still making them and they still look the same. It is a beauty though and from the looks of the case your's is an old one. I found a picture of a brand new treadle one.

I found references to the "New Butterfly" and to the JA2-1 and JA2-2 sewing machines. I also found some machines with pretty weird names - BEEBUTTERFLY, SUPERFLY, etc. I know these are Singer 15 clones, not sure of the quality of the machine, but it is sturdy (weighs a ton) and pretty and so I will clean it up and see if it works. But I have several other machines to work on first...

Just make sure if it's coming from China now that it's not lead making it so heavy. JUST KIDDING, lead would be too soft.

They are both gorgeous!!! The singer has a faceplate with the same pattern as one of my featherweights. Sheila

What a beautiful machine!!!! I don't collect sewing machines but if I had run across that one I'm sure I would have been tempted. The details are wonderful. Congratulations on your new baby!
|
VERY pretty machine....I'm all about packaging! Package something cute, and I'm a sucker! I've never heard of this machine, but again, it sure is pretty! :) Congrats!

Very pretty.

Thanks to everyone who has pointed to sewing machine manuals for this machine. I think the machine is similar enough to a vintage Singer that I can get by without purchasing a manual, but it's good to know that it's there if I need it.
|
That's one beautiful sewing machine. You did a good job buying it!
|
Wow! That thing is gorgeous!
