I bet the reason this one is loud is that motor pulley probably has a bunch of flat spots on it. There's a tool that Ray White rents out to change it. We just used quick grips to secure the motor and pushed the pin out.

That is a very interesting foot controller. Is that sewing machine common in AU? I don't think I have seen one here.

That's a nice base. Is it original? I've never heard of that brand either.

OK here's one from our Utah version of CL...as CL doesn't do so well around here.

Here's a valuable family heirloom Mercedes sewing machine from Greece on Etsy. Clearly a Japanese clone with the JA serial # to match. But- some trusting person might fall for it. A fool and his $$$ are easily parted. Only $3289.26! The paint appears to be corroded on the back.

"Rare antique old condition Mercedes sewing machine, doesn't working properly,
needs service and it's without the table.
This lovely sewing machine is family heirloom from grandmother and great sentimental value.
The high price is because of that.

Fantastic collectable sewing machine for sewing lovers!

Serial number JA 914118
JC37 is stamped from the lower side of the sewing machine.

I'll be happy to answer in every question you have,
please contact me through the etsy conversation.
Thank you for your interest."

Yes Caroline, Pinnock were a brand that sold machines until 1966. They made their own machines in a factory in Adelaide from 1957 until 1966 (before that they just put together machines manufactured elsewhere. After 1966 Craftamatic bought the brand name and started importing and re-badging Taiwanese machines. These were what you saw in the ad. There's no way the owner sold that for $500 - chances are someone told him how common they are and what they sell for (about $25-$30)
The Taiwanese ones are actually pretty good machines (gears are solid steel). The foot controllers were made by Wertheim in Sydney, as were the motors.

Why do people think others will pay extra for this?
