Glenn, I have the same cabinet and WW 8 machine. I LOVE sewing on it!! Or at least I loved it when I had time to sew on it. . . .

Glad it worked for you Joe. I am not really surprised. I learned to do this for buttonholes way back in the 60's when I was a teenager making garments. There was not much variety in thread in those days, and buttonhole twist was not readily available in colors a teenager wanted to use. The trick is truly the large eye needle. I have continued to do this through the years and it is also how I hem jeans sometimes. Gives a heavier thread look. Glad to hear it works on these older machines that I have recently fallen in love with!
Janyce

Janyce,

I just tried another successful experiment. I took two spools of Coats variegated thread and filled the bobbin with double thread. Then I threaded the top just like before. I wasn't sure the top thread would pick up the double bobbin thread but it did. And it sewed very nicely. So, I'm learning something new and interesting. When I finish my quilted machine cover I'm going to put 4 different colors of variegated thread in and use that. Should be a really pleasing outcome.

Glenn,

That's a really neat machine. I'd like to see it in action.

Went down to help a friend with some work on her house she is handicapped and can't do much on the outside of the house and cam home with the WW8. Stop on the way back home at an antique shop and could not resist it(cheap). Was in rough shape so wanted to try my luck at it. Spent about 12 hours on the head and about six on the cabinet. I have to make drawers for it they are all beat up but the cabinet was in good shape. Now I am on the lookout for attachment feet for it. I only have one regular foot with the brass insert. Would like to fine the glass feet for it. Now that I have a manual will get it to sew this weekend. I am sure it will have tension to tell with. It is a very quite running machine. It did come with three bobbins and the head was complete. the cabinet had the key and one wrench and screwdriver original to the machine but no attachments. Pat said I can lool for attachment feet but no more machines this year:D Yeah right!!!! The imagine of the logo was visible so filled it in with gold paint the best I could and then wiped it down so the decal would looked flaked and aged. I think I need more practice at this tho...

Glenn, You did an excellent job with the gold paint! Your a brave man to try that. Beautiful machine and cabinet! Enjoy!

Not as good as in New Orleans, but a treat nonetheless.

These look yummy! What are they?!!! Cookies or cream puffs?

Whigrose I would be happy to help but I need to see a pic first is it posted here somewhere? We need to see if a good cleaning and waxing is in order or is it so bad the cabinet needs more than this. When I see it I will PM you with recomendations.

Glenn;
Sure thing. Go to page 3107 in this forum. You'll see my post with some of her pics. If you need different pics of her cabinet I would be happy to take them tomorrow in the day light.

Thanks for getting back to me.

best,
d

Chris,
That's Fiona. One of our rescued kitties. She's very sweet and loving and yet ornery as all get out when she's in the mood to be.

Joe; Sounds like my Lily - also a rescue kitty. She also loves to help me quilt - usually by laying on the fabric or a part of the machine. She's also good with hide 'n' seek with my scissors and pins. She is a love but not helpful with quuilting and she has a spilt personality with good and evil twins in rsidence. Mostly, her evil twin lives with us but I wouldn't give her up for anything. FYI: Love the name of Fiona.
