I thought that I would let folks here know that I am going to be heading up to Mizkaki's place in Orangevale on Saturday the 16th for a EARLY Machine trade and play day. I am bringing ALL of my pre-1890 machines (2.75 Howes, W&W 8 and W&W 12, White Model A) for us to go over, discuss, plan repairs, compare the different early technology and approaches used to try to make a better machine. I will be trading and buying bits and pieces as well... Since I am trying to focus my collecting on 1800's machines, In addition to cash, I will also be bringing a few of my "later" machines like a White FR Portable, the New Ideal "D" I just got, possibly the blue "Sew-Mor" 15 clone, the Sew-Rite (Betsy Ross) electric TSM and my Singer Model 20 Electric TSM, all for TRADE ONLY. I prefer 19th century RUSTY machines) Basically we will be doing everything with these machines except actually sewing a project.... (Test sewing will be permitted..hehe) I am planning to get up there as close to noon as possible so that we can have a shot at being done in time for folks to be able to go to the "Ladies night out" that evening. I even called a seller one time and talked them through how to 'open' the machine. They were so intrigued they plugged it in, it ran, and they decided to keep it - all while I was on the phone with them. They had previously thought it was broken because they couldn't figure out how to get the machine set up. Duh! :) |

Mea Culpa My Apology
Hey folks,
I have had nothing but kindness and warmth from the folks on this board, and I have tried to repay that in kind. Recently I FAILED. I screwed up. A member of this board was kind enough to sell me a machine (and ship it to me) with the understanding that I would not be able to pay for it until I got paid (last week). Because of personal financial issues I was not able to honor that commitment in a timely fashion (still have not) nor did I do my due diligence of communicating the situation. The timing of the arrival of the latest batch of old machines really was bad, and the member has (Justifiably frustrated) asked me to return the machine. I am doing that today ASAP, and as much as it pains me to do so, I felt the need to "come clean" about my poor choices. This is not how things should be done, and I am sorry for besmirching the good reputation that I was seeking on here. This should in no way reflect badly on the other member. I will not be making other posts here regarding my other machines until this member has their machine safely back. Hopefully lesson learned, Steve |
Sewing machine addiction is tough. One time I overdid it and left myself no money for tolls. Never did get a ticket in the mail :)

Last year the second weekend of July my wife went to the 3 Rivers Festival in FT Wayne, IN. About that time a forum member told us about another art festival or show in another place in IN that same weekend.
We've forgotten, the other festival, place and the member who told us about it. If that member sees this please PM us the info, we're thinking of doing the other one maybe this year. Thanks Joe and Elaine |
st bought one of those little clear extension tables. It's called the Feathermate from www.sewingmates.com. So far it has adjusted to fit a 301, a 201, a 99, a 66, a clone 15, a vintage zig zag.....thought I'd mention it in case any other machine addicts were thinking about one. I saw it on Bonnie Hunters blog and I am delighted. (Yes, I thought about making one, but couldn't work out how to make the feet adjustable enough)No affiliation, just really pleased to have it fit all the machines, and not be too big, but just big enough, ya know what I mean? Today I finally got my grandmother's 1961 Singer Stylist (model 413) unloaded from my car and into the house. I'd been carrying it around in the car until I could find space to put it.
Machine is in great shape, but the bobbin race won't turn. I don't see any lint in that area. Anyone know why the bobbin wouldn't be turning? Could something have come loose in the bottom from bouncing around in the car? I took it out of the cabinet awaiting repair. I also have a vintage Kenmore, model 148-13101, which came in a portable case. The salesperson who sold me the machine originally said that it could be installed in a cabinet, since it has mounting holes for the hinge pins. However, the hinge pins in the Singer cabinet don't fit! They're too big! What do I do? |
