Donna,

Both the machine and cabinet are very pretty. Is that one of the machines that takes the obsolete needles the CC1221 or some such weird designation?

Yes, CC1221, Boye 2-1/2, or Free Rotary. Regular 15x1 are a bit long.

It isn't anything like that, just the hook/shuttle has too much play. Trying to figure out how to add video. Picture shows metal piece that rattles too much. Thanks everyone for your time and suggestions!!

Just though folks might get a kick out of seeing one of the other ways I use my metalworking skills (keeps me in practice until the next machine comes along....hehe) www.crimsonforge.com/Corvair/TinTail/index.html

My husband was just wondering how the Corvair was coming along.

Corvair- that brings back memories! My high school boyfriend had one, and there was quite a flap when the report "Unsafe at Any Speed" (by Ralph Nader I think) came out. it was a nice blue corsair, and I liked the style. I don't recall it having the flange on the trunk.

That is called a Stinger Tail. Don Yenko started his hot rod career modifying 100 1965/6 Corvair Corsa's to SCCA racing and they were called "Stingers". That tail is one of the mods that he did.
