Is it ok to use an extension cord with a sewing machine?

Domestic machines use about 100W at the most (when fitted with the brightest light and going at full pelt). In comparison, a typical microwave or a clothes dryer uses about 1,200W and a lot of people will use extension cords with these.

LOL! glad I'm not the only one! You can always make em shorter, but I hate taking motors apart once I've got em all nicely fixed up inside. So now I leave the cords on motors, waaaayy long, put a temp plug on the end and run em with my test outlet with the dimmer inside of it. Once I'm happy, then I take the chance on shortening it.

Think I've done it three times. My main machine is one of the victims and I've refused to re-do it, so the machine sits right on the edge of the work table and the FC directly underneath, only just sitting flat. Now I read that I sigh... I'll re-wire it soon.

I don't want to advertise, but I used a vendor on"that" auction site. Just compared the prices between a couple. There are others on the net. I have used both rayon and cotton covered. The rayon is funny, because the fabric sheath likes to get fuzzy where you cut it. I put clear nail polish on it. Then heat shrink over that. It looks right on the older National and New Home machines, and fits in tight spots.
