WHOOO HOOOO!!! Found me a Featherweight!

Without even looking! DH and I went to St. Vincent de Paul's to get some sheets for me to practice on my longarm. Started to get in the car and I remembered I wanted a small table for the guest room, so we turned around and went into the furniture part of the store. Almost walked out and saw an odd case with the lid missing......looked inside and almost fainted!!!! It's a Singer Featherweight 221K.....with parts! It's missing the manual and the case is in bad shape. The belt needs replacing and DH is going to work on parts because it looks like it got weight (rust in the tension area)!!!! It has the original packing slip for a "warranty"!!! (love the wording on it, too. It looks like it was hardly used --- NO scratches. The foot pedal looks brand new! Now hang on to your hats --- I got it for $30.00!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW! NOW I'm hooked! I remember when I was a young teen I tried to talk my mother into buying a white one --- I was sewing on an "ugly" black one! Did a little research and found it was made in 1964!!! I was 14 in '64 so that works out right!! I'm so stoked!!!!

That is a steal!!!!!!! I have both black and white and usuaqlly sew on my little white one. They are both equally fun though.

fluffygirl 01-13-2012 12:36 PM

You scored! congrats!

Charlee 01-13-2012 12:51 PM

I'm amazed because the store Dee is talking about is famous for being SUPER over priced...last time I was there they had a NewHome in a beat up cabinet (e-machine) for $245, and a Singer 15-91 in a beat up cabinet, sporting it's share of rust also for $245...and they wouldn't budge on the pricing!

Congrats Dee! :)

Welcome to the FW Club. I know you have been wanting one for a long time. Now you have to think of an appropriate name for her.

Cha Chiiiing! You hit the Jackpot!

char634w 01-13-2012 01:17 PM

Good for you, that is fantastic. I have two black ones and I love love love mine. My mom bought my first one sight unseen for $300 from a friend of a friend of hers because she knew I really wanted one. This was in 1980 something, and the other one my m-i-l left to me in her will. They both work great and I thought about selling one but I just can't part with either one. Ya know a girl has to have a backup in case one is not working for some reason or another. And I like having extras when neighbors or friends or relatives want to join me on a sewing day. I do have a funny story to share about one of them. One night really really late I was sewing on my Bernina in the dinning room (alone) and the little Featherweight which I was sewing on earlier just started sewing on its own. I was frozen in fright, because no one was around. I immediately looked under the table thinking that one of my doggies had strolled in without me knowing and stepped on the foot peddle but no dog was under the table. I called to my husband to come in the dinning room quick and I told him what happened and he said that it was probably a power surge or something like that. To this day I think that my mom was telling me to call it a night and go to bed or that she was looking over me while I was quilting. I still get the chills thinking about it.

That's VERY true --- a friend said they're like the old VW bugs - they go forever and are easy to fix. DH has it almost all shined up, rust free and the wheel is turning so nicely!!! Ordered the belt for it, too!!!

The one in LaPine is very reasonable.......and I find LOTS of fabric there....a little at a time, but lots. We're such a retirement area here, that lots gets donated from estates. :)

Teacup 01-14-2012 05:40 AM

I'm doing the happy dance for you! Enjoy her!
I like the name Lily...I named my 1951 Singer 99 Miss Lily after my little granddaughter...small but mighty!

New Quilter 01-14-2012 07:31 AM

Oh my gosh...it is a beautiful machine, and for that price, the case can certainly be replaced...but the Featherweights are so easy to sew on, you won't need the case too often...lol...I am so happy for you...enjoy

Stitchnripper 01-14-2012 07:34 AM

that is fabulous!! What a lucky find!!! Have fun with her.

chickadeee55 01-14-2012 07:39 AM

I'm even more excited now!!! I thought it was a white one....turns out it's a white/green one!!!! They're even more rare, according to what I read!!!! DH got it all cleaned up yesterday and is running to town to get a belt for it (according to Charlee one of the local shops has the belt)......he's even more excited than me to get it running!!!!

Wow, what a find! You never know what you're going to find in those stores. And I'm glad you rescued it before someone who would put it on eBay for $500 found it!

How excited you must of been to look in that case and find that wonderful machine!! I too am a owner in waiting....I had a really bad experience with an ebay seller who refused to ship the machine that I won on auction! I did get my money back eventually, but it was the machine that I wanted and was just sick about the experience. Still hoping that one day I will find one that I can afford. Congrats. to you!!
