I have a 301 with all the attachments. It is even more of a work horse that the FWs. I love both models.

Featherweights are wonderful. I have one and take it wherever I am going (except to Embrodiery Club)to do some sewing. It is light, dependable and worth their weight in gold. I paid $150 for mine about 18 years ago and my husband made an oak case lined, for mine. It is a real attention getter wherever I take it. It will pass down to my daughter when I am gone. If you can get one, do so, you will never regret having it. Karen from Michingan

I love my little machine and wouldn't take anything for it. I also have the table that could be bought with it. It is like a wooden card table with folding metal legs and has a pop-out piece to set the featherweight in. Makes a very sturdy sewing table for sewing at home. I had to search to find the table and bought it separately. The whole idea was that the machine didn't take up much room and the table could be folded away when not in use.

A little lady paid $159.00 for mine in 1953. I have the papers where she paid it out over several months. I paid almost $300.00 for it nearly fifty years later. I have had mine for a few years now. It is a sweet little machine!

Thanks, everybody, for all the great info on the FW. I'll continue to look for one (great excuse to keep hitting all those estate sales!). This is why I love this forum, everybody is so great about sharing their knowledge and experiences.

Just a little warning ;-) ....once you buy a Featherweight it's highly likely that you will fall victim to a serious illness called "vintage machine addiction" :roll: I had never even heard of one until I read about them on this forum. Well, it wasn't long before I bought one on eBay. Then I noticed the Singer 301's---they come in 3 colors :-D !!!! Before I knew what was happening I owned the mocha colored 301. Then I saw a two toned (light beige/oyster white) 301 and bought that. All I needed then was the black one. I won't go into detail about the other vintage machines I've bought off of Craigslist in the past few weeks :oops: :oops: but it all began with that cute little Featherweight.

Thanks for the pics of the 301. They look a lot like the machine my Mom has. I think she got it in the late 40s or early 50s. Recently I did some repairs using her machine and I was impressed with how well it sews. I'll have to check it out a little more closely next time I visit to see what model it is.

Didn't know the 301 came in colors. Mine is black.

I found a wonderful featherweight in mint condition on Craig's list today and sent a message. Still have not heard back from them. Original owner and she has the case it came in, all for $200.

I also found a 301 and no price listed, so I am waiting to hear back on that one too.
