Yep, tatting shuttle. My Mom has one even smaller. She made me a tiny little doily with it when I was a little girl. I have to put it away carefully so I don't lose it.....it's little! She never touched that shuttle again. My Dad's sisters used to tat. This little doily was the result of lessons they gave her. She says it takes hours and hours and your result is so little! LOL Tatted items are gorgeous.

It is definitely a tatting shuttle. I have one in one of my junk boxes.

It IS a tatting shuttle used for making little flowers boarders etc. Yes, the center comes out (bobbin) and you wind the thread on and start tatting. There is a pointy point on one end and that is to draw the thread up a little to make a pedal or to pick out a mistake. They make them in colors of plastic now(without the deadly point that jabs your hand if not held properly. but if you are lucky enough to know someone that tatted for years and is in the late 90s they may have a BONE shuttle. A friend of mine gave me all of her grandmothers. I tat but only make the cute little flowers and glue them to note cards and draw stems....they are adorable and always a welcomed gift.

Yep - tatting shuttle. My Great Aunt taught me many years ago. I have quite a collection - all different sizes and materials.

No dumb questions (smile). We all learn from each other. It looks like a tatting shuttle.

It's a tatting shuttle by the look of it. Tatting is an intricate way of making knots in thread so that it looks like lace. If you want to learn it, get someone to demonstrate it for you as initially there is a knack to the knot being jerked slightly so that it works properly and it is a little difficult to pick up from a book. I learnt from a book and did not get it until I jerked it in frustration - it is more difficult to unpick mistakes than it is with crochet or knitting.

Thank you all! I had no idea. I will do some web searching to learn more about tatting. No history of it in my past, but something I would love to learn more about. Another reason to love the QB!!!!#!!!
