Default Singer 25-4

Found this at GW: http://www.shopgoodwill.com/viewItem.asp?ItemID=9910016 A Singer 25-4. Never seen one before.

I figure it's some kind of industrial. What's it used for?

The only 25 class machine ISMACS lists an application for is a straw hat machine.
Theb25-4 is just listed as a plain (as compared to automatic) tension single thread high speed chain stitch with rotating hook.

I know that does not help but it is all I know.

That's a very interesting machine. I would love it see it running.

If we weren't broke I'd be bidding on it. It looks like a fun machine to play with.

OK< > Stupid question time. What is a chain stitch, and how does it differ from the lock stitch our normal machines make?

Chain stitch is what they close dog food bags with, grab one end and unravel the whole thing, think of "daisy-chaining" an extension cord or climbing rope.

Dan,

Thanks. Got the dog food bad concept. Never could "daisy-chain" a cord or rope.

don't know if this helps or not, but this is the standard rope daisy chain, not sure if a stitcher works the same... reach through the loop and pull up the bite, reach through the new loop...... repeat.

Whoa Joe. The price started at $3.99 and is now up to $183.65. Just a little too exotic and pricey for me.

*
my guess is any bagging operation from grains/flour to animal feed or manure

the one my grandfather used had a foot pedal like a pump not a treadle or electric
